Seven-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Tom Brady found massive success on the football field.
Now he’s moving into the next stage of his professional life.
And a former NFL star made one surprising prediction about Tom Brady’s next move.
Former linebacker talks about how Tom Brady can achieve broadcasting greatness
Former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady turned heads when he signed a 10-year $375 million deal with Fox Sports to become the network’s lead NFL analyst in 2023.
He could ride off into the sunset and work on his golf game during his retirement.
But Brady has a deep passion for football and broadcasting was a way to keep him around the game he loves.
There’s been many former NFL players who’ve made the transition to TV but not all of them succeed.
Former San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman told Fox News Digital that Brady has one skill that could make him a standout as a broadcaster.
“His ability to take you into a play mentally and articulate . . . people say things, and you can start envisioning [it] in your head,” Merriman said. “That’s what’s going to separate Tom Brady possibly from everyone else.”
Merriman – a three-time Pro Bowler – knows what it’s like to face off against Brady on the football field.
“And I’ve been on the short end of the stick with that, because I know how he analyzes the game,” Merriman added. “But his ability to articulate and have your mind track what he’s talking about, that’s how good he is. He may go down as one of the best to ever do it because he has so much knowledge of the game.”
Brady was a master at breaking down what a defense was going to do during his 23 seasons in the NFL.
“But if you really, really look at Tom Brady and listen to him, he can articulate and make your brain track what he’s talking about. And that’s what’s going to separate him from everybody.”
This is the latest praise from a former NFL great for Brady’s potential as a broadcaster.
Hall of Fame defensive end Howie Long – a Fox Sports studio analyst – thought that the seven-time Super Bowl champion could be the next John Madden during his broadcast career.

Brady was known for his ultra-competitive nature on the football field.
He talked about his approach to broadcasting during an appearance on The Herd with Colin Cowherd in May.
“Certainly, as a broadcaster, I don’t think for me it’s about competition,” Brady said. “I think it’s — for me, it’s about, ‘Did I put everything I could into it? Did I give the fans everything that they tuned in for? That’s really how I’ll end up gauging myself and I’ll have to look at myself at the end of every Sunday night going, ‘Did I do a good enough job?”
“Did I live up to the belief that Fox had in me? Did I live up to the expectations of my teammates Kevin Burkhardt and Erin [Andrews] and Tom [Rinaldi] and Richie Zyontz and Rich Russo and our entire truck and our entire team? That’s ultimately how I’ll judge myself in that new role,” Brady added.
Tom Brady brings his wealth of football knowledge to the broadcast booth this fall.
Only time will tell if he can live up to the lofty expectations that others have for him.
