She was the bubbly blonde everyone wanted as a roommate.
And she was a rare outspoken conservative voice in Hollywood.
But now America has lost this girl next door as this all-American roommate dies at 76.
For millions of TV sitcom viewers of the late 1970s to early 1980s, Suzanne Somers was a constant companion.
Somers played Chrissy Snow on the popular ABC sitcom Three’s Company, which ran from 1977-1984.
A valiant two-decade battle
Somers finally succumbed to the aggressive cancer she had been fighting for over 20 years.
R. Couri Way, the longtime publicist for Somers, said, “Suzanne Somers passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of October 15th. She survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years.”
“Suzanne was surrounded by her loving husband Alan, her son Bruce, and her immediate family,” the statement continued.
“Her family was gathered to celebrate her 77th birthday on October 16th. Instead, they will celebrate her extraordinary life and want to thank her millions of fans and followers who loved her dearly.”
Somers was diagnosed with the very aggressive form of breast cancer in 2000 but never gave up and fought for more than 20 years, using both conventional and alternative treatments.
In July, Somers updated her fans about her health condition in an Instagram post:
“Since I have been taking time off from work, many of you have asked for more details about my health. As you know, I had breast cancer two decades ago, and every now and then, it pops up again, and I continue to bat it down. I have used the best alternative and conventional treatments to combat it. This is not new territory for me. I know how to put on my battle gear, and I’m a fighter. Alan has been by my side every step of the way. I can’t even explain how much he has done for me. If it’s even possible, we are even closer than ever. My incredible family has been so supportive and has helped so much by keeping the business running so you can still have access to all the wonderful products. Thank you for your continued love and support. It’s only about who you love and who loves you – and I love you!”
An outspoken Hollywood conservative
Somers is best known for her role as Chrissy Snow in the TV sitcom Three’s Company, starring alongside actors John Ritter, Joyce DeWitt, Norman Fell, and Don Knotts.
The celebrity actress was also well known for her comedic abilities and also starred in the hit sitcom Step by Step from 1991 until 1998.
And Somers was known as an outspoken conservative in an industry where that is a rarity.
She was outspoken in her opposition to Obamacare and vaccine mandates, as well as her opposition to the medical establishment.
Somers, who suffered from various forms of cancer in her life, also was the author of several books on health and wellness.
And she also made the exercise equipment the Thighmaster an overnight sensation by becoming the spokeswoman.
Somers is survived by Alan Hamel, her husband of 46 years, her son from her previous marriage, and six grandchildren.
A private family burial will take place, with a memorial to be held sometime in November.
