Art Garfunkel Picked the Worst Possible Week to Attack Trump’s Venezuela Win

Sep 13, 2026

Barbra Streisand promised to leave America if Trump won in 2016, and she never did.

Art Garfunkel just made the same promise, over Trump's Venezuela operation.

What Garfunkel actually said about Venezuela should embarrass every Democrat who repeats it.

Garfunkel Calls America's Biggest Win "Shocking"

In an interview with The Guardian published September 4, Garfunkel said he is "thinking of leaving the country, frankly" because he doesn't like America's position under Trump.

His specific complaint about Venezuela tells you everything.

"When Donald Trump took over Venezuela, are those the new rules? Just take over a country and run it?" Garfunkel asked.

He left out a few details.

Nicolás Maduro – the man Garfunkel is apparently mourning – ran narcoterrorism and drug trafficking operations against the United States for years.

He ran a sham election to keep himself in power.

He jailed and tortured his political opponents.

He drove millions of his own people to flee the country he ruined.

Trump sent in U.S. forces in January and brought Maduro to Brooklyn to face federal charges.

Then Trump secured U.S. access to 65 billion barrels of Venezuelan oil, in fields once run by Russian and Chinese operators, through a deal the White House itself titled "the biggest oil deal in world history."

The Pattern That Never Gets Old

Before the 2016 election, Miley Cyrus said she would really leave if Trump won, Cher vowed to move to Jupiter, and Bryan Cranston said he'd "definitely" go.

None of them did.

Ahead of the 2024 election, Barbra Streisand told Stephen Colbert she "can't live in this country" if Trump won again.

She didn't leave either.

This time, a smaller group actually followed through.

Rosie O'Donnell moved to Ireland after Trump's 2024 win.

Ellen DeGeneres said the election made her and her wife's stay in the U.K. permanent.

James Cameron has long planned a permanent move to New Zealand.

Art Garfunkel, born in New York City, is only talking about it so far.

Ireland and England Don't Have an Open Border

The celebrities who actually followed through didn't move to the border towns absorbing the consequences of the policies they spent years defending.

O'Donnell is in Ireland. DeGeneres is in the U.K. Neither one is living next to the crisis Democrats created.

Garfunkel's complaint about Venezuela isn't really about international law.

It's about the fact that Trump did something the left spent decades insisting America couldn't or shouldn't do.

He used American power to remove a narcoterrorist dictator, and he came home with a stake in what's now the world's second-largest oil reserve holder outside Saudi Arabia.

That's the part that's actually "shocking" to people like Garfunkel – not what Maduro did to his own country for two decades, but what Trump just did in a matter of months.

An American president acted like America should win, and won.

Now the United States holds a governing stake in Venezuela's oil future – something no negotiation with Maduro still in power would have produced.

Meanwhile, Garfunkel is telling a British newspaper he might leave.

Most Americans are looking at the same story and seeing something different: a president who used American strength to remove a drug-running dictator and came home with the most lucrative energy deal in decades.

That's not "taking over a country and running it."

That's what winning looks like.
