Belfast Was Just the Beginning and the IRA Just Proved It

A Sudanese asylum seeker blinded Stephen Ogilvie in one eye on a Belfast street and officials branded the backlash "racist thuggery."

Now something far more dangerous than angry protesters is paying attention.

The New IRA just issued a 24-hour ultimatum to every migrant in Ireland – and Western governments have no answer for what comes next.

Belfast Migrant Attack Exposes What Ireland's Open Border Policy Built

Stephen Ogilvie wasn't a statistic.

He was a man walking a Belfast street in June when Hadi Alodid – a 30-year-old Sudanese man who had crossed into Northern Ireland from the Republic in 2023 and walked away with five years of legal permission to stay – pinned him down and went after him with a kitchen knife, blinding him in one eye and leaving deep gashes across his head and back.

The attack was filmed and went viral.

A Belfast court heard that Ogilvie lost his left eye.

British officials condemned the unrest that followed.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the original attack "sickening."

Northern Ireland Secretary Hilary Benn went further, branding the riots "racist thuggery" and noting that more than two dozen people lost their homes – as if arson by protesters was the story, and not the reason an asylum seeker with a knife destroyed a man's face on camera.

That was June.

This is August.

New IRA Threatens Violent Campaign to Drive Illegal Migrants Out of Ireland

Intelligence officials are now warning that the New IRA – successor to the Real IRA, which itself broke from the Provisional IRA in 1997 – is plotting a violent campaign to drive migrants out of Ireland entirely.

Security sources told the Daily Mail the group has two stated objectives: Irish independence and removing every migrant from the island.

A video appeared on social media last week featuring an unidentified man speaking on behalf of the organization.

The message was direct: leave within 24 hours or face what the speaker called "a major wake-up call for the authorities."

The speaker added that "civil war" was coming if the government refused to act.

This is what governments get when they ignore their own people for years.

The Irish government has been welcoming wave after wave of Middle Eastern and North African migrants under EU asylum frameworks, and ordinary Irish citizens have been watching their communities change, their housing costs spike, and their concerns dismissed as bigotry.

Anti-immigration protests have been burning across Ireland since 2022 – arson at proposed migrant shelters, road blockades, confrontations with police.

The political class responded with lectures about diversity.

They left a vacuum.

The New IRA is moving into it.

The Common Travel Area Loophole That Turns Ireland's Crisis Into Britain's Problem

History already ran this experiment once.

It happened in the 1970s when the Provisional IRA recruited from Catholic communities that believed the British government would never protect them.

It is happening now, in a different form, for a different grievance.

Security officials told the Mail the New IRA has been "very active this year in the North" – bomb attacks at Lurgan police station, a car bomb at Dunmurry, ongoing assaults against the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

This is not a fringe group running on fumes.

It is a functioning terrorist organization that just identified a political cause with massive popular resonance and no legitimate political outlet.

The Irish government didn't create the New IRA.

But its open-borders theology created the conditions the New IRA is now exploiting.

Intelligence sources fear the organization will use anti-migrant anger as a recruiting tool, expanding its network and its justification for violence simultaneously.

And here is the complication that has UK officials genuinely alarmed: if the New IRA campaign of intimidation succeeds in pushing migrants out of the Republic of Ireland, those migrants do not disappear.

They walk across the open land border into Northern Ireland – which is part of the United Kingdom – through the Common Travel Area, where there are no routine immigration checks.

The Irish government's failure becomes Britain's crisis.

Keir Starmer's government, already under pressure on small-boat crossings and the Channel migrant route, now has to manage a potential surge coming through Belfast's back door.

The EU migration pact that took effect in June 2026 was supposed to create coordinated, managed asylum processing across member states.

What it actually created was a system where migrants granted status in one EU country – or even fast-tracked into the system – can move fluidly across the Common Travel Area into the UK.

Ireland took them in.

The IRA is about to make them leave.

And Britain has no border to stop them.

This is what happens when governments treat border enforcement as a moral failing rather than a national obligation.

They don't eliminate the anger.

They just hand the enforcement role to people who don't use courtrooms.
