Burger King Just Brought Back Something Fans Have Been Begging for Since Obama Was President

Jun 2, 2026

Fans have been signing petitions, flooding Reddit threads, and lighting up Burger King's social media for 15 years straight.

Now the King finally listened – and starting June 2, Crown Nuggets are back on the menu for the first time since 2011.

Here's what the company just announced, and why the timing isn't an accident.

Burger King Crown Nuggets Return After 15 Years Off the Menu

Crown Nuggets first hit Burger King menus in 2006 – crown-shaped, white-meat chicken pieces designed to be dipped in barbecue or ranch sauce.

They ran until 2011, when Burger King quietly pulled them to chase a broader audience with a more standard nugget format.

Customers were furious.

A Change.org petition demanding the nuggets back gathered thousands of signatures over several years.

Fans kept the memory alive on social media for over a decade, refusing to let Burger King forget what it threw away.

In 2021, Burger King tested a small-scale return at select Miami-area locations – enough to reignite excitement, but still no nationwide comeback.

"We've been committed to creating awesome experiences for the whole family and listening to our Guests, and bringing back our Crown Nuggets allows us to do both of those things," Burger King Chief Marketing Officer Joel Yashinsky said.

Starting June 9, the King Jr. Meal gets a Crayola twist – a 4-pack of branded crayons, a colorable crown, and a meal bag designed to make the table itself an activity.

"Crayola has always been focused on creating fun for the whole family, making this partnership with Burger King a natural fit," said Crayola's Head of Global Partnerships Anna Roca.

Where to Get Crown Nuggets and What They Cost

Crown Nuggets are available nationwide starting June 2 as an 8-piece standalone order or as part of the $3.99 King Jr. Meal with a side and drink.

Both are while supplies last.

How the Reclaim the Flame Turnaround Made the Crown Nuggets Comeback Possible

This isn't a random menu decision.

Burger King has been on a mission since 2022 to claw its way back after years of losing ground to McDonald's, Wendy's, and Chick-fil-A.

The chain launched a $400 million "Reclaim the Flame" plan – overhauling restaurant designs, upgrading kitchen equipment, and pouring money back into advertising.

It's working.

Burger King posted 5.8 percent same-store sales growth in Q1 2026 – more than double what Wall Street expected, and outpacing the entire QSR burger category by five full percentage points.

Locations that completed renovations under the program are logging sales gains that older stores aren't seeing.

After years of falling behind, Burger King has now outperformed the QSR burger segment for four straight years.

The Crown Nuggets comeback fits perfectly inside that strategy.

Burger King's CEO Josh Kobza made clear the turnaround isn't being driven by one gimmick or flash-in-the-pan promotion – it's about winning customers back by making the food and experience better.

Crown Nuggets aren't a desperation move.

They're a reward for fans who stuck around – and a lure for people who left.

This Is Bigger Than Chicken Nuggets

The fast-food nostalgia wave has been building for years – and the brands that ride it right are winning.

KFC brought back its Potato Wedges in 2025 after five years of relentless customer demand.

Taco Bell launched an entire "Decades Y2K" menu in 2025 featuring five discontinued items fans had been asking to see again.

Burger King already played this playbook earlier in 2026 by updating the Whopper's bun and packaging based on customer feedback – the first significant change to the signature burger in nearly a decade.

The pattern is clear: in an era of shrinkflation and fast-food price increases that have consumers furious, the brands winning are the ones treating their customers like they matter.

Burger King fired its own mascot, admitted in an ad campaign that "fast food just fell off, us included," and started actually listening.

That kind of honest accountability is rare in corporate America – and customers are responding with their wallets.

Crown Nuggets are available while supplies last.

If your kids were born after 2011, they've never had one.

That's probably reason enough to go.
