Campbell’s Soup just announced a partnership that nobody saw coming.
The iconic soup company decided to team up with Pabst Blue Ribbon for a collaboration that sounds like it came straight out of a dive bar conversation.
And Campbell’s and Pabst Blue Ribbon just dropped one product combination that’ll have you questioning everything you thought you knew about soup season.
Campbell’s Chunky Goes All-In With Beer-Infused Soups
Campbell’s Chunky soups are known for being hearty and filling – the kind of meal that sticks to your ribs when you need something substantial.
But the folks at Campbell’s decided to shake things up by partnering with Pabst Blue Ribbon to create two new soup varieties that nobody asked for but everyone’s going to want to try.
Starting this month, Walmart shoppers can pick up Campbell’s Chunky x Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer Cheese with Potatoes & Chorizo Soup.
You get chunky chorizo sausage and potato pieces swimming in a beer cheese base that incorporates Pabst Blue Ribbon’s distinctive flavor.
They’re also rolling out Campbell’s Chunky x Pabst Blue Ribbon Beef, Bacon & Beer Chili with Beans.
This one features seasoned beef, hearty beans and smoky bacon, all infused with that distinctive PBR flavor profile.
"This is the ultimate flavor collaboration," said Ryan Pawling, Senior Brand Manager at Campbell’s Chunky. "Our fans love bold, unexpected taste experiences, and pairing Chunky’s hearty recipes with the iconic, malty flavor of PBR brings something totally unique to the soup aisle."
The timing couldn’t be better – just in time for soup season when folks start craving something warm and filling.
A Dive Bar Celebration Fits the Brands Perfectly
Campbell’s and Pabst aren’t just throwing these soups on shelves and hoping for the best.
They went all-out with the launch by hosting a dive bar takeover at Ray’s Bar in New York City on Thursday, August 21.
The event perfectly captured the spirit of both brands – unpretentious, authentic, and a little bit unexpected.
Attendees got to be among the first to try the new soup and chili paired with an ice-cold PBR.
They’re also offering exclusive collaboration merchandise and bringing in an onsite caricature artist to "Chunky-fy" guests.
"We always like to do things a little differently at Pabst, so when the opportunity came to work with an iconic brand like Chunky, we knew this was a no brainer," said Rachel Keeton, Senior Brand Director at Pabst. "It’s a bold, unexpected collaboration that celebrates flavor, fun and the spirit of both brands, and we’re excited to stir things up."
The brands are taking the show on the road too, with a food truck sampling tour planned for this fall at Walmart stores across the country.
The month-long experience kicks off September 3 and promises to bring that fusion of flavor and fun directly to customers.
Look, Here’s Why This Actually Makes Perfect Sense
You might be scratching your head wondering who thought soup and beer was a winning combination, but think about it for a minute.
Campbell’s has been connecting people through food for 155 years – they know a thing or two about what Americans want to eat.
Pabst Blue Ribbon has been doing the same thing with beer since 1844, building connections with local communities across America.
Both brands represent something authentic and unpretentious in a world that’s gotten way too fancy for its own good.
Beer cheese soup isn’t exactly a revolutionary concept – plenty of restaurants have been serving variations for decades.
And chili with beer? That’s been a tailgating staple since forever.
What makes this collaboration smart is that it takes familiar flavors and puts them in the convenience of a can that you can grab off the shelf at Walmart.
The partnership also shows that American companies aren’t afraid to have a little fun and try something different.
In a market flooded with organic this and artisanal that, sometimes people just want something straightforward and satisfying.
Campbell’s Chunky soups have always been about filling you up without breaking the bank.
Pabst Blue Ribbon has built its reputation on being the beer for regular folks who don’t need craft brewery pretentiousness.
Together, they’re offering something that feels genuinely American – bold, unpretentious, and designed for people who work hard and want something good to eat when they get home.
The food truck tour is particularly smart because it gets the products in front of customers who might walk right past them on the soup aisle.
There’s something about trying a new product when there’s a little buzz and excitement around it that makes the experience more memorable.
Plus, it gives both brands a chance to connect directly with their customers in a way that feels personal rather than corporate.
Whether these soups become permanent fixtures in the Campbell’s lineup or just a fun limited-time collaboration remains to be seen.
But you’ve got to give credit to both companies for being willing to take a swing at something completely unexpected.
In a world where most corporate partnerships feel calculated and soulless, this one actually feels like it came from people who genuinely thought it would be cool to see what happened when soup met beer.
