Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards shared one moment on the red carpet that reminded everyone what Hollywood used to look like

Hollywood divorces are usually a bloodbath that plays out in the tabloids for years.

Most celebrity exes can’t even be in the same room without lawyers present.

But Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards just shared one moment on the red carpet that reminded everyone what Hollywood used to look like.

A rare display of class in Tinseltown

The former couple reunited Thursday night at the Netflix Tudum Theater in Hollywood for the premiere of Sheen’s new documentary "aka Charlie Sheen."

This marked their first red carpet appearance together since 2005 – back when Hollywood still had some semblance of dignity.

The pair embraced warmly when they spotted each other, with Sheen even cracking jokes with photographers about posing together.

You could see genuine smiles on both their faces as they wrapped their arms around each other like old friends.

For those keeping track, Sheen and Richards married in 2002 and went through what the media called a "nasty divorce" in 2006.¹

But unlike most Hollywood train wrecks, these two actually figured out how to be adults for the sake of their daughters.

They share 21-year-old Sami and 20-year-old Lola, and Sheen even appeared on Richards’ Bravo reality show earlier this year for a family dinner.

When celebrities actually grow up

The timing of this reunion is pretty interesting when you consider what else is happening in their lives.

TMZ broke the news that Sheen quietly donated between $26 million and $30 million to various charities at the height of his career – and he did it anonymously.²

Meanwhile, Richards is dealing with her own divorce drama as she splits from Aaron Phypers, who filed for separation in July and requested spousal support.³

Richards fired back Thursday by filing her response to her ex’s divorce petition, asking the court to award her spousal support and deny him any from her.⁴

According to TMZ, Phypers told them he feels Richards is trying to "humiliate" him with her response.⁵

Compare that mess to how she and Sheen handled their red carpet moment.

A lesson in how it should be done

Look, here’s what’s really happening – and this might shock you if you’ve been following Hollywood for the last 20 years.

Two people who went through a bitter divorce nearly two decades ago figured out how to put their kids first and treat each other with basic human decency.

They didn’t need publicists coaching them on how to fake being civil.

They weren’t performing for social media or trying to rehabilitate their images.

These were just two people who share children and decided to act like grown-ups about it.

You want to know what makes this even more remarkable? Sheen went through some very public personal struggles in the years after their split.

The guy had every reason to harbor resentment or avoid public appearances with his ex-wife.

Instead, he’s showing up for family dinners and hugging it out on red carpets.

That takes a level of maturity that’s become increasingly rare in today’s celebrity culture.

Here’s the lesson that most of Hollywood – and frankly, most of America – could learn from this moment.

When you have kids together, the marriage might end but the family doesn’t.

The best thing you can do for those children is figure out how to be decent to each other, even when the cameras are rolling.

Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards just gave everyone a master class in how to handle divorce with dignity.

In an era where celebrity breakups usually involve restraining orders and tell-all interviews, seeing two people simply treat each other with respect feels almost revolutionary.

Maybe there’s hope for Hollywood after all.
