Billy Joel has been fighting a serious brain condition for months.

Fans have been worried sick about the Piano Man’s future.

And Christie Brinkley’s daughter shared one update about her father Billy Joel that triggered one emotional response in fans.

Billy Joel’s daughter reveals the truth about his brain condition

The legendary Billy Joel shocked fans back in May when he announced he’d been diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus – a brain condition that impacts vision, hearing, and balance.

At 76 years old, the "Piano Man" was forced to cancel all his tour dates through July 2026 while he focuses on his health.

Fans immediately started fearing the worst about one of America’s greatest songwriters.

But his daughter Alexa Ray Joel – whose mother is supermodel Christie Brinkley – just gave Fox News Digital an update that should put worried fans at ease.

"He’s so cool about everything," Alexa explained about her father’s approach to his health battle. "He’s always playing everything down, ‘Oh, I’m fine. Don’t worry.’ He doesn’t want me to worry, and he’s just cool as a cat about everything."

The 39-year-old singer revealed that her father has shown remarkable strength in facing his diagnosis.

And Billy Joel is attacking his health problems like he attacked his music career – with total dedication.

The Piano Man is fighting back with major lifestyle changes

Alexa Ray Joel revealed that her father has completely transformed his daily routine to battle the brain disorder.

"He’s doing his physical therapy three to five days a week, which is really, really important for him right now," she told Fox News Digital.

But here’s the part that will shock anyone who knows Billy Joel.

The man famous for his love of good food and the high life has completely changed his diet.

"We had dinner the other night. I said, ‘Dad, what are you doing? You’re not getting the steak? You’re getting chicken instead?’ Like, this is a whole new you here."

She continued, "He’s suddenly eating eggplant and all sorts of vegetables. I said, ‘Dad, you used to hate eggplant.’ He’s like, ‘Oh, I’ve learned to love it.’"

Think about that for a second.

This is Billy Joel we’re talking about – a guy who grew up in working-class Long Island and never pretended to be anything other than what he was.

Now he’s embracing vegetables he used to hate because he’s determined to beat this thing.

"So I’m really proud of him and how he sort of adjusted his habits, and he’s really at probably his most healthy actually right now in terms of how well he’s taking care of himself and prioritizing his health," Alexa added.

Fans feared cognitive decline – but here’s the truth

When Billy Joel first announced his diagnosis, many fans worried about whether the brain disorder would affect his legendary mental sharpness.

Normal pressure hydrocephalus can cause concentration and memory issues in addition to the physical symptoms.

But Alexa Ray Joel put those fears to rest with one specific example that proves her father’s mind is as sharp as ever.

"It’s funny because people were concerned about cognitive decline," she said. "I don’t see any of that from him. I really, really don’t."

Here’s the proof.

Alexa recently interviewed her father for a segment on SiriusXM’s Billy Joel channel where she asks him about his catalog of hits.

"I was doing a segment for SiriusXM for his channel, the Billy Joel channel on Sirius a couple of weeks ago," she explained. "I do a playlist of his songs. I do analysis on it with the backstories. So I interview him. I go straight to the source, my dad, and I ask him about all the material. And I was asking him, single by single, I said, ‘Well, which album is this from? What year?’"

And Billy Joel’s response was nothing short of incredible.

"He remembers every album, the exact year, the order in which the singles were ordered on the album," Alexa marveled. "So, as far as I’m concerned, he’s sharp as a tack."

She added, "I said, ‘Oh my God, dad, I can’t believe you remember the year of every single song and what was going on and where you were living.’"

"And I’m very thankful to have inherited this great memory because I’ve kind of got a memory like a steel vault. I don’t forget anything myself."

Any Billy Joel fan knows the man has recorded dozens of hits across more than five decades.

The fact that he can recall not just the songs but the years, albums, and track orders shows his mind is still firing on all cylinders.

What this means for Billy Joel’s future

Billy Joel’s proactive approach to his health battle should give fans hope about his long-term future.

Normal pressure hydrocephalus is typically treated with surgery to implant a shunt that drains excess fluid from around the brain.

The condition is most common in people over 65, but with proper treatment, many patients see significant improvement in their symptoms.

Joel’s commitment to physical therapy multiple times per week shows he’s serious about giving himself the best possible chance for recovery.

And his willingness to completely overhaul his diet – even embracing vegetables he previously couldn’t stand – demonstrates the kind of determination that made him a music legend in the first place.

Look, this is the same guy who fought his way out of working-class Hicksville, Long Island to become one of the best-selling artists in music history.

He’s faced down record executives, critics, and personal demons throughout his career.

A brain disorder isn’t going to stop Billy Joel from fighting for his health and his future.

The fact that his cognitive abilities remain completely intact means fans can still hope to see the Piano Man return to performing once his physical symptoms improve.

And knowing Billy Joel’s track record of never giving up, that day might come sooner than anyone expects.

For now, fans can take comfort knowing that America’s Piano Man is in fighting spirit – and he’s got his family right there supporting him every step of the way.
