Dennis Quaid revealed one of the scariest challenges he tackled in his career

Veteran actor Dennis Quaid has been in the movie business since the 1970s.

Now he’s opening up about one of the hardest things he’s ever done.

And Dennis Quaid revealed one of the scariest challenges he tackled in his career.

Dennis Quaid is bringing Ronald Reagan to the big screen in a new biopic

Veteran actor Dennis Quaid is starring as Ronald Reagan in the biopic Reagan, which is coming to theaters this August.

The cast includes Academy Award winner Jon Voight, Penelope Ann Miller, Mena Suvari, Kevin Dillon, and David Henrie.

Reagan is the first feature-length movie to portray the life of the 40th President.

Based on the 2006 book, The Crusader: Ronald Reagan and the Fall of Communism, the movie tells the story of Reagan’s life from his youth in Illinois through his time in Hollywood to the White House.

Quaid told the Daily Caller that focusing on the 40th President’s entire life will give audiences a clearer picture of him.

“I think what’s going to appeal to the audience is you’re getting the whole story,” Quaid said. “I’ve always been told bits and pieces of the stories from Reagan’s life. This movie puts the whole story together.”

Quaid has been acting since 1975 but the role of Reagan was one of the biggest challenges of his career.

“Portraying Ronald Reagan was an enormous challenge,” Quaid said.

Playing one of the most well-known Americans in history was a challenge for the actor.

“I didn’t know how to penetrate that, somebody so well known. I didn’t want to do an impersonation,” Quaid explained. “But I went up to the Reagan ranch and that’s what sealed the deal for me because I could feel him up there. And he was a really humble, humble guy.”

Dennis Quaid is the perfect actor to play Ronald Reagan

Quaid was initially confused about why he was offered the role of Reagan.

“I didn’t understand why they were offering me Ronald Reagan because I just didn’t see it,” Quaid told Entertainment Weekly. “I admired him so much, and so I had a chill of fear go down my spine when I was offered it. That’s usually kind of a sign that maybe I should do it because it’s out of my comfort zone.”

Reagan is Quaid’s favorite President, which added to pressure on him to deliver a great performance.

Producer Mark Joseph spoke with dozens of people who personally knew Reagan for the movie and got some stories that were used that had never been revealed before.

He thought that Quaid was right out of central casting for playing the 40th President.

“He already has the look, and then he just had that smile and that optimism, the kind of things you can’t make up for with hair and makeup,” Joseph stated. “Honestly, if you had magically told me you could have any actor you want in Hollywood or Dennis Quaid, I literally would have chosen Dennis Quaid.”

The movie focuses on the battle between freedom and totalitarianism during the Cold War.

“The way the film is set up, it’s not Democrats-are-good, Republicans-are-bad or vice versa,” Joseph explained. “It’s more about: There was totalitarianism in the world and Americans together helped to end that. My hope is that it’s a movie that doesn’t divide, but unifies.”

A Reagan biopic will be a change of pace for Hollywood during the summer movie season.
