The legendary singer just proved age is just a number.
Ten years is a lifetime in Hollywood relationships.
And Don McLean just celebrated one milestone with Paris that has everyone talking.
The 48-Year Age Gap Nobody Expected to Work
"American Pie" singer Don McLean, who turned 80 last October, just marked another milestone with a sweet Instagram tribute to his girlfriend Paris Dylan.
McLean shared a photo of himself with the 31-year-old former reality star from their 2024 White House visit for a state dinner.
"Happy anniversary Paris," McLean wrote. "We've been together for more than 10 years and you are the love of my life."
Dylan responded calling him the "love of my life."
The couple first met in 2016 when McLean hired Dylan to manage his social media accounts after her stint on MTV's Catfish.
They kept things professional at first, or at least tried to.
By late 2016, they'd gone public with their relationship — and the internet exploded over their nearly five-decade age difference.
Hollywood's Pattern of May-December Romances
McLean and Dylan aren't alone in proving critics wrong about age-gap relationships.
Dick Van Dyke married makeup artist Arlene Silver when he was 81 and she was 35 — they're still together 13 years later.
Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart have been married since 2010 despite their 22-year age gap.
Mick Jagger's been with ballerina Melanie Hamrick since 2014, with a 43-year age difference between them.
Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas have been married since 2000 with 25 years separating them.
Recent research shows why some of these relationships succeed while others crash and burn.
Psychology professor Galena Rhoades from the University of Denver points to shared core values as the deciding factor — not the number of years between partners.
Her 2025 study found older partners generally report higher satisfaction than younger ones, especially when the older partner is male.
But younger women dating older men reported lower levels of sexual satisfaction compared to older women dating younger men.
McLean's Secret to Making It Work
McLean doesn't seem worried about the statistics.
He told Fox News Digital that Paris is "better to me, I think, than anybody I've ever known."
The couple turns McLean's concert tours into joint vacations, staying at five-star resorts and traveling the world together.
Paris has stood by his side through hundreds of shows according to McLean — and she still doesn't get sick of hearing him sing.
"She's a very pure-hearted person," McLean explained. "And, my God, she travels everywhere with me."
McLean even wrote a song called "Mexicali Girl" inspired by Dylan for his album "American Boys."
That's a pretty solid sign she's become his muse along with his companion.
The singer admits he doesn't worry about their age difference because they're both happy.
"As long as she's happy and I'm happy, we take it one day at a time, and we'll move ahead, obviously, and who knows what the future holds," McLean stated. "But nobody knows what the future holds anyway. So I'm just out there on the edge, dancing."
Why Critics Keep Getting Age-Gap Relationships Wrong
Relationship expert Carolina Pataky notes that age gaps of 10 years or more are often stigmatized because people assume exploitation.
Either the older partner is using the younger one for physical attraction, or the younger partner is after money and status.
But McLean and Dylan have blown past those stereotypes for a decade now.
Dylan gained notoriety on MTV's Catfish after being the victim — not perpetrator — of a catfishing scheme involving NBA player Chris Andersen when she was just 17.
She rebuilt her image as a model working with Playboy and Maxim while building a social media following.
When she met McLean, she wasn't looking for a sugar daddy — she was hired as a social media manager.
The relationship evolved naturally from there.
McLean's previous marriage to photographer Patrisha Shnier ended in divorce in 2016 after 30 years.
Paris represents a fresh start for the music legend rather than a midlife crisis.
She travels with him constantly, supports his career publicly, and clearly adores the man behind the music.
That's a far cry from the gold-digger narrative critics love to push about younger women dating older celebrities.
Recent data shows the average age gap in relationships worldwide is 4.2 years — but that doesn't mean larger gaps are doomed.
The key is whether both partners are getting what they need emotionally, not what their birth certificates say.
McLean and Dylan appeared at that White House state dinner together in 2024 looking completely comfortable in their own skin.
After a decade together, they've outlasted most Hollywood couples half their age.
Ten years later, every critic who said it wouldn't last looks like an idiot while McLean keeps dancing on the edge.
