Fairfax County Schools Told Teachers to Protect Muslims on 9/11 and Ignore the Terrorists Who Did It

Sep 12, 2026

A Navy vice admiral was inside the Pentagon when al-Qaeda hit it on 9/11.

Fairfax County just told teachers to leave that part out.

The guide protecting Muslim feelings buries who actually did this.

Half the Guide Protects Muslims. One Sentence Mentions First Responders.

Fairfax County Public Schools is five miles from the Pentagon.

Retired Vice Admiral Lou Crenshaw felt that building shake when a hijacked American Airlines jet slammed into it on September 11, 2001.

He called the district's new teacher guide "vanilla" – sanitized until students can't tell what they're actually being taught.

He's right.

Roughly half of the district's 1,740-word guide is devoted to creating "safe spaces for Muslim and Middle Eastern students."

First responders are mentioned exactly once.

Military families get three brief references.

Islam, "Muslim families," "anti-Muslim racism," and "Islamophobic rhetoric" appear 30 times combined.

The guide includes a formal "Do and Don't" list for teachers.

The Don'ts: do not "associate the 9/11 attacks with Islam or Muslims" and do not "center the extremists or the acts of the extremists."

Think about that for a second.

Teachers five miles from the Pentagon – surrounded by military families, first responders, and 9/11 survivors – are being ordered not to center the people who did it.

Democrats Brought This Back After Youngkin Removed It

This didn't happen by accident.

Former Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares says the guidance restores language Governor Youngkin had already stripped out once.

Youngkin killed this kind of curriculum rot.

Democrats in Richmond brought it back.

Now teachers across Virginia's largest school district are working from a document that mentions "Islamophobic rhetoric" more often than it mentions the 2,977 Americans who were murdered.

Miyares compared it to teaching Pearl Harbor and pretending imperial Japan never existed.

That's not an exaggeration – it's exactly what Fairfax County is doing.

Al-Qaeda, led by Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri, issued a fatwa in 1998 declaring it the religious duty of all Muslims to kill Americans – military and civilian alike.

Nineteen hijackers carried that fatwa out on a Tuesday morning in September 2001.

Fairfax County now wants teachers to treat that ideology as beside the point.

This Is What the Left Does to History It Can't Win On

This is not new.

Critics have tracked this pattern for years: national 9/11 curricula and advocacy-linked materials that shrink al-Qaeda's role and expand lessons on Islamophobia instead.

Only two U.S. states legally require that 9/11 be taught in public schools at all.

That void gets filled.

It gets filled by guides like Fairfax County's, which instruct teachers to shut down what they call "Islamophobic rhetoric" in the classroom – and call doing so part of teachers' "sacred role."

A school district five miles from the Pentagon just told teachers their sacred role is silencing kids who connect Islamic terrorism to 9/11.

Fairfax County parent Stephanie Lundquist Arora asked the question every American should be asking.

Her children's classmates lost relatives that day, she said – and the district is "just trying to sweep it under the rug."

The message to those families is that their grief matters less than someone else's discomfort.

That's what happens when school administrators decide DEI outranks history.

That's what happens when Democrats reverse a Republican governor's fix and hand the curriculum back to ideologues.

Twenty-five years of "Never Forget," and Fairfax County just produced a six-page document that mentions safe spaces thirty times and the men who did it zero.
