Florida Teacher Labeled a Conservative Boy a Misogynist and Spread It Around the School

Sep 23, 2026

A Florida teacher spent months using an eighth-grade boy as her classroom's conservative prop – then called him a misogynist when she didn't like his politics.

Now Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has given Sarasota County Schools until October 1 to tell him what they plan to do about it.

The school district has to explain in writing why she still has a classroom.

What Liz Ballard Did to This Kid

The teacher's name is Liz Ballard.

She teaches history at Pine View School in Osprey – a public magnet school for gifted students in Sarasota County.

According to the AG's letter, Ballard routinely turns her history classroom into a political forum.

The student's parents had a clear rule: their son was not to participate in political discussions at school.

They told Ballard directly.

Ballard ignored them.

She kept dragging the boy into political debates anyway – using him as the designated conservative voice against his own parents' explicit instructions.

Then she labeled him a misogynist.

She didn't keep that label to herself.

According to Uthmeier's letter, Ballard spread the "misogynist" tag around the school and – this is the part that should make every father's blood boil – openly questioned the suitability and influence of the boy's father.

Uthmeier's letter notes that multiple parents had already initiated HR investigations against Ballard before this student ever came forward.

She kept her job anyway.

This Is Not an Isolated Teacher

Pine View isn't the only classroom where politics has turned into a weapon against students.

Last fall, at least 20 California teachers faced discipline within weeks after posting derogatory comments about conservative activist Charlie Kirk following his assassination.

Sarasota County let complaints against Ballard stack up for months and did nothing until Florida's top law enforcement officer made it public.

Same pattern, different politics, opposite response speed.

Why Florida Law Makes This More Than a Local Story

Here's what the teachers union doesn't want you to think about.

Florida isn't California.

Florida passed the Parental Rights in Education Act in 2022, signed by Governor DeSantis, which made parental authority over children's education a matter of state law – not a courtesy a teacher can choose to extend when she feels like it.

The state also has explicit ethical standards governing the professional conduct of educators.

Uthmeier's letter cites at least six separate violations of those principles.

Six.

This isn't about whether Ballard had a bad day or crossed a line once.

Uthmeier laid out a documented pattern: the parents objected, the teacher ignored them, the harassment continued, other parents reported similar behavior, and the district let her keep teaching while the complaints piled up.

That's not a rogue teacher.

That's a school district that decided protecting a left-wing teacher was more important than protecting a conservative child.

Uthmeier sent a copy of his letter directly to Florida Education Commissioner Henry Mack – which tells you exactly how seriously he's treating this.

What Happens When the School Board Ignores Parents

The teachers union is representing Ballard through a monthslong internal investigation, according to union president Jason Means.

Ballard herself pushed back publicly, telling reporters that what Uthmeier wrote in his letter is "not accurate at all compared to the actual investigation."

She didn't say what part was inaccurate.

The district's own statement promised only to "examine the relevant facts" – no timeline, no commitment beyond that.

Uthmeier isn't waiting on that kind of language.

His October 1 deadline forces the school board to either show its work or explain on the record why it hasn't acted.

That's exactly what Florida's Office of Parental Rights was built to do – give parents who can't afford a lawyer and don't have months to fight a school board someone with actual authority in their corner.

An eighth-grade boy's parents told a teacher to keep their son out of political debates.

The teacher said no, repeatedly, then destroyed the kid's reputation in front of his classmates and went after his father.

James Uthmeier stepped in.

October 1 is coming fast.
