His Fourth DUI Arrest Should Have Ended It and California Let Him Walk Anyway

California had a chance to stop him after his fourth arrest.

ICE begged the state to hand him over before it was too late.

What happened next is the reason California's sanctuary law needs to end.

The State That Protects Killers More Than Kids

That case has nothing to do with the quadruple murder that just made headlines out of Lancaster. That's the point.

Miguel Diego Sandoval, 21, just pleaded guilty to killing four people in November 2024.

He murdered Janvi Maquindang, Christine Aca-ac, Edwin Garcia, and Matthew Montebello because his boyfriend's family was in the wrong house when the relationship ended.

Sandoval lurked outside until the family went to sleep.

He went in, opened fire, then burned the house down on his way out.

A 16-year-old trapped inside survived by locking the bedroom door and calling 911.

Sandoval gets life without parole. Justice worked – this time.

But this case has nothing to do with immigration policy. No sanctuary law was in play here.

The man California refused to hand to ICE is a different story entirely.

After his fourth DUI arrest in June 2025, ICE placed a detainer with San Joaquin County Jail.

California's sanctuary politicians ignored it and released him without a word to federal agents.

He walked into a Modesto home in May 2026.

He stabbed to death 23-year-old Fabiola Gonzalez-Nunez, 54-year-old Maria Sylvia Nunez-Villalobos, and a baby.

DHS confirmed every detail. California had him. California let him go anyway.

Gavin Newsom Has 33,000 More Like Him Sitting in California Jails

Here's the number that should stop you cold.

ICE has formally called on Gavin Newsom and Attorney General Rob Bonta to honor detainers on 33,179 criminal illegal aliens currently sitting in California custody.

That is not a projection. That is the population behind bars in California right now.

Those 33,179 people have committed 399 homicides, 3,313 assaults, 1,293 sexual predatory offenses, and 1,984 weapons charges between them.

California has already released 4,561 of them since January 20, 2025 – the day Trump took office and America changed direction on the border.

Thirty-one of those released had homicide offenses on their record.

ICE asked California to hold them. California said no anyway.

When a Sheriff Begs ICE to Take More People

This detail belongs in every campaign ad next November.

Orange County Sheriff Don Barnes went before his own Board of Supervisors and complained that ICE wasn't picking up enough people.

Barnes said 733 of the 48,000 suspects booked into his jail in 2024 were deportable.

California's sanctuary law blocked his deputies from alerting ICE about 456 of them.

A sheriff tried to protect the public. His own state stopped him.

Santa Clara is worse. Two Honduran nationals were arrested for murdering a 24-year-old single mother in Sunnyvale.

DHS confirmed one of the men had been released once before by Santa Clara sanctuary politicians.

He was arrested again – this time for murder – and Santa Clara refused ICE's detainer on him a second time.

Newsom Is Running for President on the Body Count

The analysis here isn't complicated.

Gavin Newsom has spent three years laying groundwork for a presidential run.

Cooperating with ICE costs him votes in the progressive base he needs to win a primary.

Not cooperating costs Californians their lives. He's made his choice.

A man with four DUI arrests gets released without ICE notification because California law requires it.

That law is one Newsom has defended and expanded – not one forced on him.

Three people die in Modesto. Newsom goes on television and talks about Trump's fascism.

The 33,179 criminal aliens sitting in California jails right now are an indictment of the politicians who put ideology over the people who elected them.

Lancaster, Modesto, Sunnyvale. Different killers. Same California.
