And Hulk Hogan found ultimate peace just months before his final bell rang.

Wrestling icon dies after spiritual awakening

Terry "Hulk Hogan" Bollea passed away Thursday morning at age 71 after suffering cardiac arrest at his Clearwater Beach home, but not before experiencing what he called "the greatest day of my life."¹

The WWE Hall of Famer had undergone a profound spiritual transformation just months before his death, publicly declaring his "total surrender and dedication to Jesus" in December 2023 when he was baptized at Indian Rocks Baptist Church in Largo, Florida.²

"Total surrender and dedication to Jesus is the greatest day of my life," Hogan wrote on social media following his baptism. "No worries, no hate, no judgment… only love!"³

The timing couldn’t have been more meaningful. Here was a man who had spent decades entertaining millions, finally finding the peace that had eluded him throughout his legendary career.

Clearwater Fire Department and Police responded to the medical emergency at 9:51 a.m. Thursday at Hogan’s Eldorado Avenue residence. He was transported to Morton Plant Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:17 a.m.⁴

Police Major Nate Burnside confirmed there were "no signs of foul play or suspicious activity" surrounding the wrestling icon’s death.⁵

Faith journey marked final chapter

Hogan’s spiritual awakening represented a return to his roots rather than a newfound discovery. The wrestling legend had accepted Christ as his savior at age 14, but admitted he "derailed" during the height of his wrestling career.⁶

"I accepted Christ as my savior at 14 years old, and the training, prayers and vitamins kept me in the game but now that I am one with God, the main event theme of surrender, service and love makes me the Real Main Event that can slam any giant of any size through the power of my Lord and Savior," Hogan shared in April 2023.⁷

The December baptism ceremony showed Hogan and his wife Sky Daily being fully immersed in the baptismal pool, both wearing white as symbols of their new beginning. Hogan characteristically kept his signature bandana – now white instead of his trademark yellow – and wore a gold cross necklace during the ceremony.⁸

Pastor Aaron Filippone of Indian Rocks Baptist Church described witnessing the global impact of Hogan’s public declaration of faith. "This is the way Christians go public in their faith and he felt it important to do what Christians do," Filippone explained. "He had people in Japan calling him just a couple minutes later."⁹

Political awakening paralleled spiritual journey

Hogan’s final years also marked his emergence as a vocal supporter of President Donald Trump and conservative values, culminating in his electrifying speech at the 2024 Republican National Convention.

The wrestling legend credited the assassination attempt on Trump as the moment that compelled him to speak out politically. "When I saw him stand up with that fist in the air and the blood on his face – as a warrior, as a leader – I realized that’s what America needs," Hogan explained.¹⁰

At the RNC, Hogan delivered one of the convention’s most memorable moments, ripping off his shirt to reveal a Trump-Vance 2024 t-shirt underneath while declaring, "Let Trumpamania run wild!"¹¹

President Trump honored his friend in a Truth Social statement Thursday: "We lost a great friend today, the ‘Hulkster.’ Hulk Hogan was MAGA all the way – Strong, tough, smart, but with the biggest heart. He gave an absolutely electric speech at the Republican National Convention, that was one of the highlights of the entire week."¹²

Legacy extends beyond the ring

Hogan was an entertainment icon but transformed to a man of faith.That resonated with fans worldwide.They watched him battle various personal struggles over the years.

In a May 2024 interview with The 700 Club, Hogan reflected on how his baptism represented a "major pivot" in his life. "Once I was baptized, I felt all new. It really was a major pivot," he said. "It broke down that fourth or fifth wall to tell people the truth about my Lord and Savior."¹³

The wrestling legend faced extensive physical challenges from decades in the ring, having undergone extensive surgeries throughout his career due to wrestling injuries. His wife Sky Daily had recently denied social media rumors that he was on his deathbed, insisting his heart was "strong" as he recovered from spinal surgery.¹⁴

Hogan’s impact on popular culture was massive – he transformed professional wrestling from a niche entertainment into a mainstream phenomenon during the 1980s "Hulkamania" era. But perhaps his greatest victory came in those final months when he found the peace that had eluded him for so long.

The Real American leaves behind his wife Sky Daily, children Brooke and Nick Hogan from his first marriage, and millions of fans who watched him evolve from entertainment superstar to devoted man of faith.

Wrestling may have made Hulk Hogan famous, but faith made him complete.
