Jelly Roll Had One Answer for Fans Mad About His Trump Jokes

Jelly Roll spent a decade telling fans he'd never talk down to them.

This week he found one group he was willing to talk down to.

The fans who bought his albums just got told to go vote for Kamala Harris instead.

Jelly Roll's Kimmel Monologue Mocked Trump's Weight and Poll Numbers

Guest-hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday, Jelly Roll went after President Trump's weight, his approval numbers, and his handling of a D.C. IndyCar race.

He joked that Trump "apparently has never held a flag before."

He cracked that his own 300-pound weight loss meant he'd "lost an entire Donald Trump."

Country fans noticed fast, because a lot of them assumed Jelly Roll was one of them.

That assumption wasn't crazy.

Jelly Roll shook hands and smiled with Trump at a UFC event in November 2024.

He headlined Kid Rock's Rock the Country festival, a lineup built around outspoken Trump supporters.

Some of those fans threatened to boycott him over it.

Jelly Roll's response wasn't an apology.

Fans complained he hadn't treated the president with reverence and dignity, he told the studio audience Tuesday. "But I want to remind y'all that I go by the name Jelly Roll," he said. "I don't even treat myself with reverence and dignity."

Then came the line that actually stings.

If Trump supporters are mad he's goofing on the president, Jelly Roll said, they should have voted for Kamala Harris so he could make jokes about her instead.

That's not a joke about Trump.

That's a joke about the people who buy his tickets.

Jelly Roll's go-to answer is that he's not political at all.

He told Congress the same thing in 2024, testifying on the fentanyl crisis – no party, no alliance, never followed a political race in his life.

That line worked fine talking about drug policy to a divided room.

It works a lot worse the week he spends a national monologue zeroed in on one president's weight and one president's poll numbers.

Kimmel's show didn't book Jelly Roll because he's neutral.

It booked him because he's a country star with a MAGA-coded fan base, and getting him to rip Trump reads as a bigger win than another comedian doing it.

Jelly Roll took the bait, then got irritated that the people who made him famous noticed.

He Was Grinning On Tulsa King Before He Turned On His Own Fans

He's the same artist who turned up back in 2024 on Tulsa King, singing his song "I Am Not Okay" for Sylvester Stallone's gangster drama and the exact audience he just told to go vote Democrat.

That audience didn't complain when he showed up in their favorite show.

Jelly Roll didn't stumble into this the way some artists do.

He escalated on night two instead of walking it back.

He did it by telling his own fans who to vote for if they want different jokes.

That's not comedy.

That's a musician deciding his fan base owes him political agreement, not just ticket money.

Country radio has ended careers over smaller insults than telling half your audience to go vote for someone else.

Jelly Roll is betting his catalog that this time is different.

He's about to find out if it is.
