Jeopardy! is one of the most beloved game shows in TV history.

A big change is in store for the long-running quiz show.

And Jeopardy! made one major announcement about the show’s future that left fans stunned.

New pop culture Jeopardy! spinoff coming to streaming

Jeopardy! is one of the most popular game shows on broadcast TV.

Now, Hollywood is betting that fans of the show want more of it.

Streaming service Amazon Prime is set to release a spinoff of Jeopardy! with a twist.

Pop Culture Jeopardy! will change the game show’s usual format by having three teams of contestants try to answer pop culture questions.

The classic “answer and question” format will remain the same, but contestants will choose from categories about movies, music, TV, and sports.

Contestants “need to be experts in categories from Alternative Rock to The Avengers; Broadway to MMA; Gen Z to Zendaya” according to a press release.

Amazon Prime hasn’t announced a premiere date or host, but the new game show will be available in more than 240 countries.

Amazon MGM Studios originals unscripted and targeted programming executive Lauren Anderson dished with Variety about the new Jeopardy! spinoff.

“Pop Culture Jeopardy is its own cultural moment, marking the first time the iconic franchise will premiere exclusively on a streaming service,” Anderson said.

“With a team-based approach and pop-culture focus, our global Prime Video customers will exclusively experience this innovative spin on Jeopardy! while testing their knowledge on topics that both define and transcend generations,” Anderson added.

Pop Culture Jeopardy! is being created by the gameshow division of Sony Pictures Television, the producers of classic Jeopardy!.

Sony Pictures Television President of game shows, Suzanne Prete, said that the new spinoff would be a “fresh twist” on the Jeopardy! format.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to collaborate with our partners at Amazon to make Prime Video the home for our new Jeopardy! spinoff series,” Prete said.

Jeopardy! executive producer Michael Davies will be in charge of the Amazon Prime spinoff.

“With Michael Davies at the helm, Pop Culture Jeopardy! is going to be a nail biter for game show enthusiasts who can expect to see teams competing at the highest level of Jeopardy! combined with a fresh twist of pop culture Olympics for the mind . . . it’s going to be a must-watch for long-time viewers and new fans alike,” Prete added.

The latest in the world of Jeopardy! spinoffs

The current iteration of Jeopardy! debuted in 1984 with the late, great Alex Trebek as the host.

Jeopardy! has tried several spinoff series since.

Rock & Roll Jeopardy! ran from 1998 to 2001 on cable network VH1.

Streaming service Crackle was the home of Sports Jeopardy! hosted by former ESPN SportsCenter anchor Dan Partick from 2014 to 2016.

Jep!, a kid’s version of the popular game show, ran on The Game Show Network from 1998 to 2000.

Fans of Jeopardy! will be able to test their knowledge of pop culture in the popular game show’s new spinoff.
