Jeremy Boreing Just Beat HBO and Hollywood Has No Idea What Hit Them

Sep 8, 2026

Hollywood spent years telling Christians their stories didn't belong on screen.

Now a conservative-made Arthurian fantasy series just knocked House of the Dragon out of the top spot.

What Boreing did next is something Hollywood executives are going to be studying – and dreading – for a very long time.

How The Pendragon Cycle Went From DailyWire Plus to Number One on Prime Video

The Pendragon Cycle: Rise of the Merlin launched in January behind the DailyWire+ paywall.

Critics ignored it completely. As of this writing, it still has no critic score on Rotten Tomatoes – not a bad score, no score at all.

That's what the gatekeepers do to content they can't control. They don't review it. They don't acknowledge it. They pretend it doesn't exist and hope the audience never finds out.

The audience found out anyway.

The seven-episode series – filmed in Hungary and Italy, adapted from Stephen R. Lawhead's novels, set in the chaos of post-Roman Britain – hit Prime Video internationally this summer and reached number one among fantasy series in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain and Portugal. Then it hit the U.S. market September 1st and immediately beat House of the Dragon on streaming charts. It also ranks third overall on Amazon Prime, behind only Reacher and Dark Matter.

An independently produced conservative Christian fantasy series is outperforming HBO.

The Christian Fantasy Series That Did What Rings of Power Never Could

Boreing called the project "the culmination of a 10-year vision to create culture, not just to criticize it." The series follows Merlin – portrayed here as a prophet, not a sorcerer – in a Britain where Christianity is clashing with ancient paganism and Saxon invaders are burning everything in their path.

Hollywood would never greenlight this. The studios that spent the last decade turning every fantasy property into a progressive lecture – Rings of Power cost Amazon an estimated $1 billion and delivered lectures about diversity across Middle-earth – simply cannot make what Boreing made.

They don't know how. Their audience is different. Their values are different.

Boreing has been trying to make this project since he was in his early 20s, sitting in an apartment in Panorama City writing adaptations of Lawhead's novels. He admitted he didn't even understand what underlying rights were at the time. He spent three decades getting to this moment.

That's not how a content factory works. That's how an artist with a mission works.

The Conservative Entertainment Revolution That Is Beating Hollywood at Its Own Game

Boreing left The Daily Wire in March 2025 after a decade of building it into a billion-dollar company. The stated reason was a difference in priorities – he wanted to make films and television, and the company's core political commentary business pulled in a different direction.

He was right to leave. And he was right about what the market wanted.

The numbers tell the story. Angel Studios – which operates on the same faith-and-values model – went public on the NYSE and posted Q4 2025 revenue of $109.9 million, up 254 percent year-over-year. Sound of Freedom crossed $250 million worldwide. The Chosen now claims an estimated 280 million viewers globally. This is not a niche. This is a massive, underserved audience that Hollywood spent twenty years sneering at.

The pattern here is unmistakable. When conservatives build their own institutions instead of begging mainstream gatekeepers for permission, they win. Ben Shapiro built The Daily Wire. Jeremy Boreing built The Pendragon Cycle. Angel Studios built a public company generating nine-figure quarterly revenue. None of them waited for Hollywood to validate them.

Meanwhile, Netflix and Amazon keep pouring money into woke content that audiences reject while genuinely entertaining, values-driven productions beat them in the ratings. The studios keep making Rings of Power sequels. Conservatives keep making Pendragon – and letting audiences decide.

Audiences have decided.
