Hollywood’s nefarious efforts to force movie-goers to suffer through woke reboots are meeting resistance.
But it’s not just movie-goers who are fighting back; some within Hollywood are taking a stand, too.
And Keanu Reeves stepped back into this title role and saved us all from another woke Hollywood reboot.
A planned remake of the series Constantine that was set to be rebooted with a “diverse lead” has been canceled.
Keanu Reeves to the rescue
And we can all thank John Wick star Keanu Reeves for the cancellation of the woke version.
The character John Constantine is from a comic book created in 1985 and was depicted as a white man from London, England.
In fact, the inspiration for the character’s description was originally from the musician Sting.
And the role has since been played by white men Reeves in the famous 2005 film and then by Matt Ryan in a 2014-2015 TV series.
But of course, in today’s Hollywood, all traditional roles must be obliterated in the name of diversity and wokeness.
As reported by Bounding into Comics, the Constantine character underwent a total reimagining when it came into the possession of J.J. Abrams’ company Bad Robot Productions (quickly becoming known as “Bad Reboot”).
Abrams, of course, infamously took over directing and producing the Star Wars franchise for Disney, which many fans have said has destroyed the once dominant franchise.
According to a 2021 report in Deadline, Abrams’ company was set to introduce an HBO Max remake of the 2014 “Constantine” TV series with writer Guy Bolton taking it in a markedly DEI-friendly direction.
Another woke attempt
“The character is set to be cast as a diverse lead, a departure from the one played by Matt Ryan in the NBC series,” Deadline pointed out.
This was confirmed through another report by the entertainment outlet Illuminerdi.
The outlet said the studio had “hopes of casting a BIPOC actor in their late 20’s.”
BIPOC is an acronym that stands for Black, Indigenous, and people of color.
It is a term specific to the United States.
The outlet seemingly confirmed this reporting again in 2022 when it reported that sources at Warner Bros. were looking to cast Sope Dìrísù as the new woke John Constantine.
Then, in the very same week, Knight Edge Media “exclusively confirmed” the studio was looking for two Cambodian actors for the role and for the role of Astra, who was also white in the comics.
But now it looks like Reeves has saved us from all this.
Warner Bros. has announced that The Matrix and John Wick actor will instead be reprising his role as John Constantine in a new sequel.
Variety confirmed in October 2023 that the woke HBO project was dead despite having scripts already written.
The show was reportedly so far along that negotiations with the lead actor were already underway.
Reeves originally starred in Constantine in 2005 alongside actor Shia Lebeouf.
The film took in over $230 million worldwide.
Now that Keanu Reeves is back, fans expect another blockbuster.
