Krispy Kreme Unveiled One Sweet Deal That Has Doughnut Fans Lining Up Around the Block

Aug 3, 2025

Krispy Kreme just pulled off the marketing move of the summer.

The doughnut chain’s latest creation is causing a genuine sensation.

And Krispy Kreme unveiled one sweet deal that has doughnut fans lining up around the block.

Krispy Kreme launches "Passport to Italy" collection with authentic Italian flavors

With gas prices still crushing family budgets and international flights costing more than most people’s monthly rent, Krispy Kreme just delivered the perfect solution.

The Charlotte-based doughnut chain rolled out its "Passport to Italy" collection on Monday – three Italian dessert-inspired doughnuts that cost less than a tank of gas but deliver more satisfaction than a week in Rome.

"This summer, Krispy Kreme is transporting you to Italy’s sweet life – no passport required," said Alison Holder, Krispy Kreme Chief Brand and Product Officer.¹

The promotion runs through August 18 and features three creations that would make any Italian grandmother weep with joy: the Cannoli Inspired Doughnut, Limone Delight Doughnut, and Tiramisu Inspired Doughnut.

Here’s what you’re getting for your money.

The Cannoli Inspired Doughnut takes everything great about the classic Sicilian dessert and wraps it in Krispy Kreme’s signature style. They start with their unglazed ring, give it a chocolate coating with cookie pieces, dust it with powdered sugar, and crown it with cannoli-flavored cream. Think of it as Sicily in a single bite.

The Limone Delight captures those Amalfi Coast vibes perfectly. The shell gets stuffed with lemony goodness, covered in bright citrus icing, and topped with candied lemon pieces. One taste and you’ll swear you can hear the Mediterranean waves.

The Tiramisu Inspired Doughnut delivers that Roman café experience without the jet lag. They fill the shell with coffee-flavored cream that mimics the classic Italian dessert, add sweet buttercream on top, and finish with a dusting of cocoa powder. It’s like having dessert at a sidewalk café without the $200 plane ticket.

"There’s a taste of Italy’s sweetest dessert traditions in every bite of our Passport to Italy doughnuts, from tiramisu to cannoli to lemon . . . dipped, dusted and drizzled to perfection," Holder explained.²

The collection is available in-shop and for pickup or delivery through Krispy Kreme’s app and website, both individually and by the dozen.

Customers are already planning their doughnut pilgrimages

Doughnut fans wasted no time flooding social media with their reactions.

"I’m gonna have to get these! I love all of these flavors!" one Instagram user wrote.³

Another fan cut straight to the chase: "I’ll get the whole box of cannoli!"⁴

The enthusiasm reflects something deeper than just excitement over new flavors. Krispy Kreme’s recent limited-edition runs with DC Super Heroes and Hershey’s left many customers cold, but this Italian collection has people genuinely excited again.

"Oh, I am so here for these ones," a third customer commented, clearly signaling their approval after months of lackluster releases.⁵

The strategy is working exactly as Krispy Kreme hoped. Instead of chasing trendy partnerships that feel forced, they went back to what built their reputation – taking beloved desserts and reimagining them as doughnuts.

"Going to Krispy Kreme is much cheaper than a trip to Italy," one practical fan joked.⁶

Company rebounds after hackers targeted their doughnut empire

The Italian launch comes at a crucial moment for Krispy Kreme, which spent most of 2024 dealing with a cyber attack that would have killed a weaker company.

Last November, the Play ransomware gang hit Krispy Kreme’s systems like a wrecking ball, shutting down online ordering across huge chunks of the United States for weeks.⁷

The hackers made off with personal data from 161,676 people – Social Security numbers, financial account details, passport numbers, even biometric data.⁸ Basically everything you’d never want criminals to get their hands on.

Krispy Kreme spent $4.4 million just to clean up the mess and hire cybersecurity experts to rebuild their systems.⁹ The company estimated total losses from the attack at $5 million. Since digital sales account for 15.5% of their revenue, the timing couldn’t have been worse – right before the holiday shopping season.¹⁰

But here’s what separates successful companies from the failures: instead of folding under pressure, Krispy Kreme’s executives rolled up their sleeves and got to work.

Months of round-the-clock effort paid off. "Our online ordering, retail shops, and core business functions are now fully operational," the company announced earlier this year.¹¹

The "Passport to Italy" collection proves they didn’t just survive the attack – they came back stronger.

Smart customers know about the rewards program perks – loyalty members can snag one of the new Italian doughnuts free with any purchase through the app.¹²

For families who want the full Italian experience, Krispy Kreme rolled out specialty dozen bundles that combine the Passport to Italy collection with Original Glazed dozens.¹³

This move shows Krispy Kreme’s executives understand their customers better than most food chains. People want experiences they can actually afford, and sometimes the best vacation is one you can take without maxing out your credit card or sitting in an airport for six hours.

The company operates in over 40 countries, but they know American customers are dealing with financial pressures that make every dollar count.¹⁴

With inflation still hammering family budgets, the "Passport to Italy" collection delivers something rare in 2025 – genuine value that doesn’t feel like you’re getting ripped off.
