Hollywood loves to create drama where none exists.
The tabloid media has been working overtime to manufacture controversy about Liam Neeson’s budding romance with Pamela Anderson.
But Liam Neeson got one family endorsement that shut down all the noise about whether this relationship is real.
Richardson backs her brother-in-law’s new romance
The Downton Abbey actress didn’t mince words when Entertainment Tonight asked about Anderson’s relationship with Neeson.
"I think she’s [a] magnificent artist," Richardson told the outlet. "I think everything she’s done so far is quite, quite wonderful."
Then came the kicker that really matters.
"And obviously, I love my brother-in-law too," Richardson added.
That’s not just polite celebrity speak – that’s a family member giving her stamp of approval.
Richardson is the sister of Natasha Richardson, Neeson’s late wife who died in 2009 after a tragic skiing accident.
If anyone has the right to be protective of Neeson’s romantic life, it’s his late wife’s sister.
Instead, she’s publicly supporting this new chapter in his life.
The 73-year-old Taken star and the 57-year-old Anderson met while filming The Naked Gun reboot.
A source close to the production told PEOPLE in July that they have "a budding romance in the early stages."
"It’s sincere, and it’s clear they’re smitten with each other," the insider explained.
Media manufactures fake controversy
But leave it to the tabloid press to try and ruin a good thing.
TMZ published a report on August 29 claiming that publicists for Anderson and Neeson manufactured the entire relationship for publicity.
The allegation was so ridiculous that sources close to the couple had to respond.
"Everything between them has been genuine," a source told PEOPLE. "Neither would ever take part in a publicity stunt."
Another insider called the TMZ report "ridiculous," particularly the claim that the actors never had a one-on-one date.
"Their relationship isn’t just for show," the source added. "They have a real connection. There’s no incentive for either of them to stage something like this."
Richardson’s public support proves the point.
She’s been backing the couple on social media too, leaving red heart emojis on Anderson’s Instagram posts about their movie promotion.
The real story Hollywood doesn’t want you to know
Look, here’s what’s really happening with this whole manufactured controversy.
The entertainment media can’t stand the idea of two genuine people finding each other without their permission.
Neeson has been a widower for 16 years after losing the love of his life in that skiing accident.
Anderson has been through her share of very public relationships and marriages.
Both of them are at a stage in life where they don’t need publicity stunts or fake romances.
They’re successful actors who met on a movie set and apparently hit it off.
But the tabloid press needs drama, so they manufacture it.
The fact that Richardson – who has every reason to be cautious about anyone new in Neeson’s life – is publicly endorsing Anderson tells you everything you need to know.
This isn’t some Hollywood publicity stunt cooked up by agents and publicists.
This is two people who found something real together, and a family member who recognizes it.
The media’s attempt to turn it into manufactured drama just shows how cynical they’ve become about genuine human connections.
Sometimes a romance is just a romance – even in Hollywood.
