Missouri Road Rage Mob Beat a Retired Trucker for Stopping to Help

Sep 25, 2026

Lance Jeffries stopped his van to check on the people he had just bumped into.

Four people dragged him into the street and stomped him like a piece of trash.

Now you need to see what the prosecutor in charge of this county did next.

Fender-Bender Video Shows Mob Stomping Retired Trucker

Davion Alfred hit first.

Jeffries had barely stepped out of his Chrysler Caravan to check on the other vehicle's occupants when Alfred punched him in the head.

Jeffries went down.

What followed was not a fight.

It was a stomping.

Charging documents say Alfred and three others – Mary Moore, Tamara Logan, and Martinez Logan – then "repeatedly punched, kicked, stomped, and dragged" the 63-year-old retired truck driver while he lay on the ground.

His daughter Valancia Jeffries described what the bystander video showed: her father getting kicked in the chest, then dragged through the street "like a piece of lint."

Then they went through his car.

Alfred is accused of grabbing Jeffries' keys and wallet before the group went through his van, making off with trash bags of clothes he was dropping at Goodwill.

Officers who reached the scene found him unable to talk at all.

He was rushed to a hospital with his eyes swollen shut, his neck and jaw injured, and blood clots in his leg and stomach that would require surgery.

Attackers Apologize While Retired Trucker Recovers From Surgery

Here is where this story takes a turn that should make your blood boil.

Moore, Alfred, and Tamara Logan went on television to say they were sorry.

Moore said she was "angry," her kids were hurt, her vehicle was wrecked, and – this is the part she apparently wants you to understand – "I did not see a 63-year-old man, and that was my fault."

"I saw someone who endangered my kids, and that was all I saw," Moore told a local station.

Alfred admitted he threw the first punch and said "none of that was justified."

Logan apologized for kicking and slapping Jeffries and said the online threats her family received were wrong.

The problem with an apology tour is this: Lance Jeffries is still in the hospital because he got out of his car to do the decent thing.

St. Louis County Charges Four in the Road-Rage Beating

The four were charged Thursday – Tamara Logan, 48; Martinez Logan, 25; Mary Moore, 26; and Davion Alfred, 30 – each facing second-degree robbery, third-degree assault, and second-degree burglary.

They were booked on $250,000 cash-only bonds.

Here's the part your local news will bury: that assault charge is third-degree, not first or second, even though the victim needed surgery for blood clots after being stomped and dragged in the street.

The office deciding how hard to come down on this mob is St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Melissa Price Smith, a Democrat who inherited the job from Wesley Bell – the same prosecutor who fought to vacate a death row conviction and campaigned against the death penalty during his tenure.

This isn't the first time St. Louis County has watched a mob take over a public street and walk away with soft paper.

Bystander mob attacks tied to road rage and minor disputes have become a recurring headline nationwide, and every time, the charging decisions somehow land lighter than the video evidence.

Lance Jeffries did the one thing every parent teaches their kids to do after a fender bender – he stopped, and he checked on people.

His attackers spent five free days doing apology interviews on local television before a single pair of handcuffs came out.

There is a version of America where a minor traffic accident ends with an insurance card, not a stretcher.

What happened on Jennings Station Road is what happens when that version of America collides with a system more comfortable explaining a mob's feelings than protecting the man they nearly killed.
