Each artist shared posts featuring the surname "McArthur" with different birth and death dates.
Nobody knew what was coming, but the names alone were enough to break the internet.
McGraw posted about John McArthur, born in 1920 and died on the day JFK was assassinated.
Church's character Junior McArthur died in Vietnam in 1967.
HARDY shared Jones McArthur, who died just three weeks ago.
Wallen's Hunter McArthur was born on Wallen's own birthday and is the only one still alive in the story.
The cryptic posts had one thing in common – they were building toward something country music desperately needed.

HARDY released the full song "McArthur" on January 30, and it's everything fans hoped for.
The song tells the story of four generations of the McArthur family, with each artist taking on one character's perspective.
McGraw opens as John McArthur, the farmer who worked the land with nothing but a mule and a plow.
Church plays his son Junior, killed in Vietnam.
HARDY voices Jones, raising a son more interested in money than dirt.
Wallen closes as Hunter, the money-focused heir haunted by selling the family's land.
The song builds to one devastating question that hits like a punch to the gut – "When you pass on, what you gonna pass down?"
Fans immediately drew comparisons to the legendary Highwaymen, the 1980s supergroup of Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, and Kris Kristofferson.

"'McArthur' is a very special one," HARDY said in a statement. "It came together pretty fast. I know I wrote the song, but I also feel like how did I end up on this song? It's a lineup of absolute legends."
