One customer’s discovery at Dollar General triggered an FDA warning that has shoppers everywhere panicking

Millions of Americans rely on Dollar General for their daily essentials.

The discount chain has become a lifeline for families trying to stretch their budgets from the fallout of the Biden economy.

But one customer’s horrifying discovery just turned a routine coffee purchase into a potential emergency room visit.

Customer finds glass fragments in instant coffee

On August 11, the Food and Drug Administration announced a recall of Clover Valley Instant Coffee sold at Dollar General stores after a customer made a disturbing discovery.

Glass fragments were found inside the coffee container.

This isn’t your typical recall over an undeclared allergen or expired product – we’re talking about actual pieces of glass that could seriously injure anyone who drinks this coffee.

The FDA warns that ingesting these glass fragments could cause "serious harm, including broken teeth, cuts to the mouth or throat and even internal damage."

Recall spans nearly the entire country

The recall affects Clover Valley Instant Coffee sold between July 9 and July 21, 2025.

The recall covers 47 states, meaning millions of customers who thought they were just buying their morning coffee could have brought home a dangerous product.

The affected states include Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and Wyoming.¹

How to identify the dangerous coffee

The recalled Clover Valley Instant Coffee containers can be identified by specific lot numbers printed on the neck of the container.

Look for Lot L-5163 with a "Best By" date of December 13, 2026, Lot L-5164 also with a "Best By" date of December 13, 2026, or Lot L-5165 with a "Best By" date of December 14, 2026.²

The affected product carries UPC code 876941004069.

Dollar General is offering full refunds for any unused product, but honestly, don’t even risk keeping it around.

Throw it out immediately.

No morning coffee is worth a trip to the emergency room or worse.
