Tensions are rising in the Senate as they try to pass a bill to plug the leak that Biden created on the southern border.
The Swamp Critters in the Senate are trying to sneak the border bill through without giving members a chance to even look at it.
But the normally very calm GOP Senator Mike Lee unloaded on his fellow Senators, and he is not holding back one bit.
Lee takes to social media to express ire over the border bill
Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) is extremely angry about the decision to pass a border bill without letting lawmakers read it first.
The conservative lawmaker decided to take to the social media platform X, where he engaged in a multiple-tweet rant about the issue.
Lee wrote, “Even while refusing to let us see the bill they claimed to be negotiating on our behalf—for MONTHS—they were never in doubt, insisting we’d be dumb and even unpatriotic NOT to support it.”
He was referring to a common tactic that Mitch McConnell and others have been using for years by pushing bills through the Senate floor before their fellow Senators could look it over.
Lee ended the tweet with, “This is a disqualifying betrayal,” essentially calling for Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to be replaced.
Although McConnell had Senator James Lankford (R-OK) serve as the face of Republicans during the bill’s negotiations, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has said that McConnell is still the one who’s really calling the shots.
Speaking to reporters, Schumer said, “I have never worked more closely with Leader McConnell on any piece of legislation as we did on this.”
But the pair have worked closely together before, most recently working on ways to subsidize American taxpayer dollars to provide money to Ukraine’s war efforts.
Meanwhile, Lee is questioning McConnell’s loyalty, hinting that he is not working for his own fellow Republicans’ agenda.
He wrote on X, “If you had a lawyer, agent, or employee who (while negotiating on your behalf) botched a deal as badly as Senate GOP leadership botched this border / supplemental aid package, would you immediately fire that person?”
Lee added, “This is worse than bad negotiation. It’s betrayal.”
As criticism of the bill grew, both McConnell and Lankford pushed back, while another Senator, Mike Rounds (R-SD), blamed Russian disinformation on leaked provisions of the deal.
Rounds said, “I suspect that a lot of the internet rumors are very well coming from overseas, where they would love to see this shut down because some people would rather not see funding for Ukraine.”
The border bill does nothing for the border crisis
According to Lankford, the new bill would not allow 5,000 illegal aliens or more per day to cross the border, saying that the information was just “internet rumors.”
However, the text of the bill confirms that the new emergency authority wouldn’t be triggered until a jaw-dropping 8,500 illegal aliens cross the border in a single day or if an average of 5,000 illegals cross over seven days.
This number is even higher than Lankford’s initial claim when he said it wasn’t true, claiming that allowing that many per day is “absurd.”
Lee highlighted several objectionable provisions in the bill on X, writing that there was “Still a lot of ground to cover in this 370-page bill, but so far, I haven’t seen anything contradicting what I’ve been saying for the past few weeks. So why did the bill’s authors (and those parroting their talking points) condemn me and others for describing what little I knew about the bill? More to the point, why did they keep it secret for so long?”
