Tax The Rich Candidate Angie Nixon Has A Very Different Rule For Her Own Bill

Sep 17, 2026

Angie Nixon built her Senate campaign on making billionaires pay their fair share.

Then the socialist candidate got her own IRS bill and student loan statement.

Her own words about that bill are not what she promised voters.

Nixon Owes $17600 In Student Loans And $14000 To The IRS

Florida state Rep. Angie Nixon just pulled off the upset of the year, knocking out establishment favorite Alex Vindman in the Democratic Senate primary.

She did it running as a proud member of the Democratic Socialists of America.

Her platform includes a five percent annual wealth tax on billionaires.

Her own finances tell a different story.

Nixon's latest disclosure shows she owes nearly $14,000 in unpaid federal taxes and $17,609 in unpaid federal student loans.

She made at least $270,000 last year.

That puts her paycheck at more than five times what the workers she claims to champion actually take home.

Her Own Words Give The Game Away

Nixon did not hide her feelings about the bill.

"Your girl over here is on a payment plan to pay the IRS $12,000 back," Nixon said during a July podcast interview.

"I ain't made $105 billion, but you making me pay $12,000 to the feds? Like, really?" she said.

Then, in her own words, paying what she owes was simply "crazy."

This is not a one-time slip.

Back in October 2023, when the pandemic student loan pause ended, Nixon posted on Facebook that she was done pretending she would ever pay back her own loans.

"Dear Student Loans. It's above me now," she wrote.

"I don't wanna pay it back. Education supposed to be free."

She has kept that promise to herself for three years.

A 2024 divorce filing shows she earned over $164,000 the year before and still budgeted nothing toward her loans.

That gap is more than sloppy paperwork.

National Legal and Policy Center attorney Paul Kamenar points out that Senate rules require disclosing any debt over $10,000, and Nixon left both debts off her filing entirely.

The Kerry Playbook

Nixon is not the first tax the rich crusader who discovered the rules were for someone else.

John Kerry spent a presidential campaign demanding wealthier Americans pay more, then skipped a small voluntary tax on his own Massachusetts return year after year.

Critics called it hypocrisy then, and it fit a pattern that keeps repeating on the left.

The instinct is always the same: raise the bill for everyone else, find a reason to dodge it yourself.

Nixon just put a 2026 socialist spin on it, and said the quiet part out loud, on a podcast, with her name attached.

The Senate Finance Committee writes the tax code and oversees the IRS collecting on it.

Nixon is asking Florida to hand her a seat at that table while she is delinquent to the same agency.

Any student loan forgiveness bill that reaches the Senate floor would also cross the desk of a senator who has spent three years refusing to pay her own.

Florida voters get to decide in November whether that is who they want writing the rules.
