Sean Paul headlines explosive six-night celebration

The US Virgin Islands Department of Tourism and its Division of Festivals have confirmed that Grammy-winning Jamaican music legend Sean Paul will top the bill for the 2025 St. John Celebration Village Nights, a six-night concert series set to run June — July as part of the island’s annual carnival season.

This isn’t just another Caribbean festival.

The 2025 St. John Celebration, will be taking place from June 28 through July 4, 2025 under the vibrant theme: “History and Culture Come Alive for St. John Celebration.”

The timing couldn’t be more perfect.

Rooted in tradition and cultural pride, St. John Celebration culminates in a fusion of festivities that honor both Emancipation Day and Independence Day.

Tourism Commissioner Joseph Boschulte explained the festival’s significance.

“This year’s theme is a powerful reminder of who we are as a people,” said Joseph Boschulte, US Virgin Islands Commissioner of Tourism.

“As we celebrate our heritage, St. John Celebration gives us the opportunity to share our stories, showcase our culture, and warmly welcome visitors to be part of our unique Caribbean experience.”

Sean Paul brings serious star power to the festival.

His accomplishments include an American Music Award, MOBO Awards, Soul Train Awards, MTV Music Awards, ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Music Awards, a Source Award and a BET Award.

He is the only Jamaican artiste to have won an American Music Award (2006) for Favourite Pop/Rock Male artiste and also the first Jamaican to be featured on the cover of Vibe Magazine.

This reggae superstar has performed in over 100 countries and worked with everyone from Beyoncé to Rihanna.

Caribbean music royalty takes the stage

The lineup reads like a who’s who of Caribbean music.

The event opens with Trinidadian soca favorite Patrice Roberts, followed by nightly performances from regional heavyweights including Nailah Blackman, GBM Nutron, Asa Bantan, Krosfyah, Bunji Garlin and Fay-Ann Lyons.

These aren’t random artists thrown together.

Tourism Commissioner Joseph Boschulte said the festival’s team “has done it again, curating a lineup that is both globally recognized and culturally resonant,” noting that the program balances marquee names with home-grown acts.

Every night promises a different flavor of Caribbean music, from traditional calypso to modern soca.

Local talent gets the spotlight they deserve.

Local bands Jam Band, VIO Int’l, Spectrum Band, Blind Earz and RVP Band will showcase Virgin Islands calypso, while Rudy Live and Adam O bring high-energy soca to the stage.

Virgin Islands artists will play a central role throughout the festivities. From the very first night, local bands and performers will showcase the territory’s musical depth and diversity.

The celebration will culminate in a grand finale following the annual fireworks tradition, with two of the Virgin Islands’ most celebrated performers taking the stage. Internationally recognized hitmakers R. City, along with crowd-favorite Pumpa, will close out Village Nights with high-impact performances meant to honor the territory’s cultural pride and musical legacy.

R. City brings serious credentials to the closing night.

The duo contributed to two Grammy Award–winning albums: Rihanna’s Unapologetic (Best Urban Contemporary Album) and Jennifer Hudson’s album Jennifer Hudson (Best R&B Album).

Theron won the Songwriter of the Year, Non-Classical at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards for his credits throughout 2023.

These aren’t just local boys who made it big.

Theron and Timothy Thomas are natives of Saint Thomas in the United States Virgin Islands.

Brothers Theron and Timothy Thomas, known as R. City, formerly Rock City, made it to No. 1 on the Billoard chart with their hit single “Locked Away,” featuring Adam Levine.

Their story perfectly captures the Virgin Islands spirit.

Though they’ve seen success, the brothers have remained true to the territory and have promoted the islands at every turn.

They spoke of being misunderstood by producers on the mainland; being sidelined because of their St. Thomas accent, and although they had the skills, it seemed impossible to catch that ever-so-important break.

“Our goal this year is to deepen the connection between community and culture,” said Ian Turnbull, Director of Festivals and Events.

“From traditional moko jumbies and calypso to modern performances and local cuisine, we’re inviting everyone to celebrate what makes St. John and the Virgin Islands so special.”
