Tom Selleck has been one of the most beloved TV stars since his days on Magnum, P.I.

Now he’s facing an uncertain future after he suffered a setback.

And Tom Selleck had an emotional goodbye to fans after this fight came to an end.

Blue Bloods films its final episodes after fans and cast fought to keep it going

CBS police drama Blue Bloods has been one of the top-rated shows in its Friday night time slot for network TV.

The show’s main characters are the Reagans, a family serving in the New York City Police Department.

CBS decided to cancel the show after 14 seasons despite its strong ratings.

“All shows have to come to an end,” CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach told Deadline in May. “It’s important to us to refresh the schedule. We are going to end the show come December.”

The cast led by veteran actor Tom Selleck and fans fought to keep the show going.

A save Blue Bloods campaign on social media gathered over 30,000 signatures.

“I will continue to think that CBS will come to their senses,” Selleck told CBS News in May. “We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast. We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to come back. And I can tell you this: we aren’t sliding off down a cliff. We’re doing good shows, and still holding our place.”

But the calls to save the show fell on deaf ears at CBS as Blue Bloods wrapped up filming its final episode.

The final family dinner scene

A staple of Blood Bloods was the weekly Sunday dinner by the Reagan family where they discussed the tough issues.

Actor Donnie Wahlberg – who played Danny Reagan – gave an emotional goodbye after filming the final family dinner scene.

“I’ve taken this walk thousands of times in 14 years and it was a teary final walk from the Blue Bloods dinner scene, last week,” Wahlberg wrote on social media. “More so than I could have ever imagined.”

“Of course some sad tears — but mostly tears of immense humility,” Wahlberg continued. “It’s been a wonderful adventure. One that I know so many of us, and so many of you, wish could continue. My desire to carry on, however, is only surpassed by the amount of humility I feel for having been part of this wonderful journey at all. I’m so thankful.”

Selleck, who played New York Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, said that his time on Blue Bloods taught him a lot about the job of law enforcement.

“I learned a lot more about the pressure of command,” Selleck said. “Someone who holds the lives of 35,000 people who work for him in their hand.”

Selleck said when the show was canceled that it was “an honor and a privilege to work on a show that not only celebrates the men and women who protect and serve in New York City, but also displayed the importance of family.”

But all might not be lost for fans of the show.

A Blue Bloods spinoff is rumored to be in the works that could keep the story of the Reagan family going.
