She electrified audiences in the 1980s as the fantasy woman who stepped out of a computer screen in Weird Science.

But Kelly LeBrock has traded Tinseltown glamour for something completely different.

The 65-year-old actress made a rare public appearance at the Vanderpump Dog Gala in Beverly Hills on December 11, where she opened up about her dramatic life transformation after leaving the entertainment industry two decades ago.

"I don't really go out anymore. I'm sort of a bit of a recluse, but I like it like that," LeBrock told the Daily Mail.¹

The former Hollywood bombshell now lives on a ranch in California's Santa Ynez Valley, where she personally tends to horses, cattle, dogs, and chickens with minimal help.

"I gave up diamonds for dirt, and I have a big ranch that I have horses and cattle and dogs and chickens, and I take care of it myself. I have one man, one day a week that comes and helps," LeBrock explained.²

She described her property as "a little gem" located behind a lake, calling the countryside "incredible."³

The Weird Science star's transformation from glamorous actress to reclusive rancher began after her bitter 1996 divorce from action star Steven Seagal, with whom she shares three children.

Their split was so ugly and public that LeBrock felt she had no choice but to flee the spotlight entirely.

"When I split with Steven, the divorce was very ugly, and details of the case were on the evening news," LeBrock revealed in a 2013 interview. "I didn't want my kids seeing it, so I simply got rid of the TV."⁴

LeBrock's journey to stardom began when she started modeling at age 16 in New York City.

By 19, she had landed a prestigious contract with Christian Dior and became one of Eileen Ford's most sought-after models.

Her breakthrough came in 1984 when she starred opposite Gene Wilder in The Woman in Red, followed by her iconic role as Lisa in John Hughes' 1985 cult classic Weird Science.

The films positioned LeBrock as the ultimate fantasy woman of the 1980s, making her one of the decade's biggest sex symbols.

But the actress now says that early fame was more curse than blessing.

"I became famous when I was very young and it didn't do me a bit of good. It just caused trauma. Being famous is not for everybody," LeBrock stated.⁵

After her divorce from Seagal, LeBrock admitted she "became a hermit" and developed crippling self-esteem issues.

"I had absolutely no self-esteem. I hated myself. I decided to swap my old life in Beverly Hills for a new one in the country, in Santa Barbara," she revealed.⁶

LeBrock's ex-husband has become even more controversial in recent years, with multiple women accusing him of sexual misconduct and his vocal support for Russian President Vladimir Putin drawing criticism.

When asked about Seagal in 2021, LeBrock called him "a tragedy of Hollywood" and "a very sad person."⁷

Hollywood's loss becomes ranch life's gain as star embraces "dirt under her nails"

LeBrock now grows her own vegetables, makes her own cheese and yogurt, and says the physically demanding ranch work keeps her fit without needing a gym.

She hasn't owned a television in over two decades and has minimal contact with the outside world.

"Hollywood wasn't a place where I wanted to raise my children," LeBrock told Fox News in 2021. "My divorce was very much in the press, and I'm just not a Hollywood girl. Never have been. I never really liked the attention. I wanted to have dirt in my nails and be in the outdoors."⁸

The actress has occasionally appeared in small projects since leaving Hollywood, most recently in the 2021 indie film Tomorrow's Today.

But a full-time return to acting isn't in the cards for LeBrock, who is now developing her own line of animal skincare products called Kelly Care.

"I was just never impressed with being famous or fabulous," LeBrock said. "I got up every day and did my job, I didn't think about being a pretty lady or any of that nonsense. I have never been impressed with myself. I think I'm pretty normal."⁹

LeBrock admitted that ranch life isn't without its dangers, including encounters with mountain lions, rattlesnakes, tarantulas, and bears.

"The last time I saw one [mountain lion], I ran home on my horse, and I haven't been down to that area since, because they're pretty big," she confessed.¹⁰

Despite the challenges, LeBrock has no regrets about choosing family and farm life over fame and fortune.

"You know, I could always go back to a career, but I couldn't go back to my children," she explained. "And that was the most important thing to me was raising my children."¹¹
