Willie Nelson received a standing ovation after he survived this scary situation

Jul 10, 2024

Willie Nelson is one of the all-time greats in country music.

He’s still hitting the road and touring into his 90s.

And Willie Nelson received a standing ovation after he survived this scary situation.

Willie Nelson returns to touring after a recent health scare

Country music legend Willie Nelson turned 91 years old in April but he’s ready to ride off into retirement.

He’s been touring this summer as part of the Outlaw Music Festival with artists like Bob Dylan, John Mellencamp, Robert Plant, Alison Krauss, and others.

Nelson shows no signs of slowing down with a tour schedule this year that runs through October.

But a recent health scare had him off the road on doctor’s orders.

“We regret to inform you that Willie Nelson is not feeling well and, per doctor’s orders, has been advised to rest for the next four days,” a statement read. “In the meantime, [Willie’s son] Lukas Nelson and the Family Band will perform a special set to include Willie’s classics and other songs.”

Nelson missed four tour dates with an undisclosed illness.

Fans became worried about the 91-year-old legend’s health.

But he made a triumphant return to the stage during the Outlaw Music Festival’s show for a Fourth of July performance in Camden, New Jersey.

Nelson walked out onto the stage at the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion to a thunderous ovation from the crowd.

He performed hits like “On the Road Again,” “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys,” and “Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground,” with his son, Lukas.

And Nelson performed some songs off his new album, The Border.

This isn’t the first time that a health scare has slowed down his touring schedule in recent years.

In 2019, he had to postpone some shows due to a “breathing issue” but was able to make up the dates later in the year.

Willie Nelson talks about retirement after a decorated career

Willie Nelson has been performing country music since the 1950s and has released 152 albums during his legendary career.

He credited his success and longevity due to his positive attitude.

“I appreciate everything I get and I’ve been lucky,” Nelson told Forbes in April 2023. “I’m a little bit amazed that I’m first of all still here, [And] I’m having a good time. I’m enjoying the singing, I think it’s good for me. People come up, right away, pay some money to come hear me or somebody sing, and it’s a great energy exchange out there and I look forward to it every time.”

He was asked about retiring and had a classic answer.

“Jokingly, I retire after every tour,” Nelson said.

“But I’m always ready to go back again,” Nelson continued. “I like the bus. I have everything I need on the bus. I never have to go into a hotel room anywhere. It’s not that bad.”

Willie Nelson will hopefully be performing live for many years to come.
