The clock is ticking for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to mend fences with his family
Prince Harry reportedly wants to find a way to repair his relationship with his family.
But he and his wife, Meghan Markle, are reportedly “running out of time.”
Royal expert Richard Eden said that a changing of the monarchy could spell permanent exile for Harry and Meghan on the Daily Mail’s Palace Confidential podcast.
“Time is running out to come back while his father is still King,” Eden said.
King Charles III became Monarch in 2022 after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
“If Harry wants to come back at any stage, he needs to do it while his father is still King,” Eden added.
The 75-year-old King is fighting an undisclosed form of cancer.
Eden explained that once Prince William becomes King, the door could close for Harry to repair his relationship with his family.
“I really think that when Prince William is King, I can’t see him letting Harry come back and have a role again,” Eden stated.
“They are irrelevant now, they are just not wanted as part of the monarchy, maybe there could be some radical change but it’s hard to see,” Eden added.
Harry and Meghan tried to get back into the fold with the Royal Family
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle quit their jobs as working Royals in 2020 to leave the United Kingdom for Montecito, California.
Royal watcher and author Tom Quinn told the Mirror that the couple reached out about helping out with Royal duties while Charles and Kate Middleton, Prince William’s wife, battled cancer.
“Both Meghan and Harry still hope that at some point they might be asked back to become working royals on their own terms — it’s a rapidly shrinking possibility, but the couple have talked about this at length and the fact that senior royal numbers are seriously down at the moment has rekindled their hopes,” Quinn said.
But that is delusional thinking by Harry and Meghan according to him.
“As I understand it from palace contacts, they are kidding themselves if they think they will be invited back in any way,” Quinn added.
Grant Harrold – the former butler to Charles when he was the Prince of Wales – thought that a possible reconciliation between Harry and his family was up in the air.
“I’ve always thought that Harry would have wanted to reach out to his family, whether it’s too late for that I don’t know,” Harrold said.
“Maybe there’s too much water under the bridge now. A lot of time has passed, and trust has been broken. Can that be repaired? Time will tell,” Harrold continued.
The bottom line is, Prince Harry has a long road ahead of him to repair his relationship with his family.
