Kevin Costner suffered one tragic setback that could send him back to Yellowstone

Kevin Costner and the producers of the hit show Yellowstone famously had a falling out.

It appeared that the door was closed on his return to the beloved series.

But Kevin Costner suffered one tragic setback that could send him back to Yellowstone.

Kevin Costner and Yellowstone could reconcile for the series’ conclusion

Filming is underway for the second half of the fifth and final season of the Paramount Network hit Yellowstone.

It’s still a mystery if series star Kevin Costner will make an appearance to wrap up the story arc of his character John Dutton.

Costner got into a messy public dispute with Yellowstone that led him to walk away from the show.

He accused the show’s producers of not coming up with a script in time while they accused him of putting his attention into his new movie Horizon: An American Saga.

Horizon is a passion project for Costner that’s been working on in some form since 1988.

The four-movie, 12-hour Western epic tells the story of the American West being settled beginning during the Civil War.

Chapter One is set to be released in June while Chapter Two is coming out in August.

Costner is currently working on filming Chapter Three.

The Yellowstone star sunk $38 million of his own money into Horizon to get the project off of the ground.

But the first Horizon movie debuted at the Cannes Film Festival to negative reviews from critics.

The movie has a 29% rating on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes with some critics saying it should have been a television series.

Kevin Costner’s potential woes with Horizon could send him back to Yellowstone

A source told Life & Style that Horizon Chapter One’s struggles could lead Costner to try and return to Yellowstone.

“Kevin burned his bridges at Yellowstone,” the source said. “But now that his world is crumbling around him, I hear he’s considering begging Taylor to take him back!”

Costner has publicly stated that’s willing to return to the Paramount Network series.

Yellowstone stars Cole Hauser, Kelly Reilly, and Luke Grimes reportedly had a falling out with him after his acrimonious split from the show.

“Kevin didn’t make any friends among his costars,” the source explained. “He left the entire future of the show in question by delaying the production — and then left the show altogether to work on Horizon. They didn’t know whether they’d even have jobs during all of that. It’s hard to imagine them welcoming him back with open arms.”

Costner’s financial and career situation could dramatically change if Horizon struggles at the box office.

“Kevin felt he was on a winning streak that couldn’t be broken, and he got into a war of egos with Taylor,” the source added. “Things have obviously changed radically.”

One of the reviewers compared Horizon to Costner’s 1995 infamous flop Waterworld.

“Kevin’s looking at a return to Yellowstone to save his hide,” the source said. “It’s got to be a bitter pill for him to swallow.”

Now Costner could be looking for a soft landing back in familiar territory if his latest movie venture doesn’t work out as planned.
