Taco Bell staple business has always been Tex-Mex menu items.
But every now and then it would push the envelope and introduce items that were not quite what you would expect from a taco place, but they were still good.
Fans of this one item are thrilled that Taco Bell is bringing back this old favorite and you will be running for the border.
Nacho Fries are a fan-favorite at Taco Bell
Nacho Fries had the biggest launch in Taco Bell history when they first hit the scene in 2018.
Taco Bell’s take on the French fry is seasoned with Mexican spices and gives fans a side of nacho cheese sauce for dipping.
Their launch bested the legendary Doritos Locos Tacos which previously held the crown.
Nation’s Restaurant News reported that within five weeks of its debut, the chain had sold 53 million orders.
“We’re seeing fries in one out of every three orders, compared to one out of every four for DLT (Doritos Locos Taco),” Taco Bell spokesman Matt Prince told Nation’s Restaurant News in 2018.
Serving fries at Taco Bell proved to be a bigger hit than the chain ever expected.
Despite their massive popularity, fans of the Nacho Fries have watched them come on and off the menu over the years as a limited-time release.
Nacho Fries are back with a twist
Taco Bell is bringing back Nacho Fries are coming back to the menu with a new partner and some good news for fans.
The chain promised that they’ll have their “longest run ever” when they return to the menu at the end of April.
How long they’ll stick around for is an open question but a press statement said, “The Nacho Fries fun will continue nearly all summer long.”
And Taco Bell is collaborating with Secret Aardvark – a Portland, Oregon-based hot sauce company – for a special edition.
Fans can pick up the new Secret Aardvark Nacho Fries featuring slow-roasted chicken, nacho cheese sauce, a three-cheese blend, reduced fat sour cream, pico de gallo, and Secret Aardvark’s new zesty Serrabanero Ranch Sauce for a limited time.
The Serrabanero Ranch Sauce is crafted from green tomatoes, roasted tomatillos serrano, and green habanero peppers with a mix of ranch.
“We’re thrilled to bring back fan-favorite Nacho Fries for their 11th return, in a whole new way, with an extra flavorful partnership with Secret Aardvark,” Taco Bell global food innovations officer Liz Matthews said in a press release. “Secret Aardvark’s dedication to bold flavors and culinary innovation makes them the perfect partner for Taco Bell and our iconic Nacho Fries. Together, we’re taking flavor exploration to new heights, ensuring our fans experience the ultimate taste sensation with every bite.”
This becomes the latest unique twist on Nacho Fries after Taco Bell previously released a buffalo chicken version and Yellobird Nacho Fries in collaboration with another hot sauce brand.
Nacho Fries could be moving one step closer to becoming a permanent menu item with the latest announcement.
