The Pope meets with comedians at the Vatican
Pope Francis held a meeting at the Vatican with more than 100 comedians from 15 countries to celebrate the importance of humor.
The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg was joined at the event by comedians – some real and some alleged – like notoriously unfunny late-night talk show hosts Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert as well as actors Chris Rock and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
“So, we’re on our way over to see the Pope,” Goldberg said in a video posted to social media. “It is the b**t crack of dawn, okay, but this is the time we’ve been told to come over. And I mean, who minds walking down these streets? Nobody. It’s beautiful.”
The Pope praised comedy for helping highlight issues in society and making people smile.
“You manage to make people smile, even while dealing with problems and events, large and small,” Pope Francis said. “You denounce abuses of power. You give voice to forgotten situations. You highlight abuses. You point out inappropriate behavior.”
Goldberg joked afterward that she offered Pope Francis a role in her upcoming movie Sister Act 3.

Goldberg jetted back from Italy to the United States for her day job as a co-host on ABC’s The View.
She admitted that she ate a cat treat that was on her nightstand instead of pretzels in an allegedly jet-lagged induced mix-up.
“I got home, perhaps I was a little more jet-lagged than I realized. I was not high, I had nothing to drink, it is two in the morning and I had these wonderful pretzels called Dot’s pretzels which I love,” Goldberg said qualifying herself.
“So my kid decided that she was gonna leave some cat treats on the other side of my bed so that if the cat wanted some treats, she’d go up there and get them because I wasn’t gonna get up,” Goldberg continued. “But, this daughter of mine put a bag of the cat treats, she put them right next to the Dot’s.”
Goldberg’s alleged exhaustion led to an unfortunate mix-up.
“So 2AM . . . you know what’s coming. I pop up at 2AM and I’m thinking, ‘Where am I, what country is this? Oh the hell with it, I need some Dot’s.’ So I reach over and I put some Dot’s in my hand and put them in my mouth. And I’m chewing and I’m thinking, well, maybe they’re a little stale,” Goldberg continued.
Unable to tell the difference between a cat treat and a pretzel, she allegedly kept stuffing her face.
Eventually, something dawned on her that she wasn’t eating a pretzel.
“Now I just came from the Vatican. And I am eating crabby crab flavored Temptations!” Goldberg exclaimed.
“Well that shows you God has a sense of humor!” co-host Ana Navarro said as everyone cringed.
Whoopi Goldberg becomes one of the few people in the country who would confess on live TV to not being able to tell the difference between a cat treat and a pretzel.
