Kevin Costner revealed this surprising offer he made to return to Yellowstone

May 24, 2024

Kevin Costner didn’t hold anything back about his relationship with Yellowstone.

He talked about the question that’s on everyone’s mind.

And Kevin Costner revealed this surprising offer he made to return to Yellowstone.

Kevin Costner says he was willing to kill off his character on Yellowstone

The drama off the set is as big as it is on the Dutton Ranch in the Paramount Network hit Yellowstone.

Series star Kevin Costner and the show’s creator Taylor Sheridan have been at odds since the actor walked away from Yellowstone.

The show has begun production on the final half of episodes for season five, the series’ last.

It’s still a mystery if Costner will return to wrap up the story arc for his character John Dutton.

He gave an interview to GQ where he opened up about his side of the Yellowstone feud.

Costner says that he walked away from the show because there wasn’t a script ready for it after production delays because of the writer’s strike in Hollywood.

Yellowstone producers say his new movie Horizon: An American Saga was taking up his time and attention.

“The scripts never came,” Costner told GQ. “They still haven’t shot it. As far as I know. The scripts never came. And so then at one point they said to me that we don’t have an ending or anything.”

“I said, ‘Well, if you want to kill me, if you want to do something like that,’ I said, ‘I have a week before I start. I’ll do what you want to do,’” Costner added.

Other actors on the show have confirmed that a script wasn’t completed.

Kevin Costner talked to Taylor Sheridan about returning to Yellowstone

Costner said that he spoke with Sheridan about returning to Yellowstone in some capacity and put the ball in the creator’s court about reprising his role.

“Taylor and I know what the conditions are for coming back, and I’ll just keep that between ourselves,” Costner said. “And if we can’t get to it, it’s because at the end of the day, it’s unreasonable for them or something.”

Sheridan is known for keeping the scripts for his shows under wraps until production begins.

“I love that character. I love that world,” Costner explained. “I am a person that is very script oriented. And if the scripts aren’t there now, I need to know what I am. I want to make sure that the character lines up with what’s important to me too. And that’s pretty simple. That’s just between, again, Taylor and myself. Can we ever get there? I don’t know.”

Costner’s update doesn’t sound promising for his chances of returning to the show he helped turn into a hit.

The final half of season five is slated to have six episodes that are scheduled to begin airing in November.

Now the clock is ticking with the show shooting to find a resolution to his dispute with Sheridan.

The split between Kevin Costner and Yellowstone could deprive fans of a fitting conclusion to one of the most popular shows on TV.
