The NFL draft is a time of high tension and drama, but it’s not always only about the players.
Some unexpected family drama can sometimes erupt too.
And this girlfriend of one of the top NFL picks found out the hard way, she isn’t family.
Draft night is a big deal
For the die-hard football fans out there, the NFL draft is their Mecca.
They have waited months without football and have been stuck with just sports commentary.
And now, they are able to finally see some steps firsthand that will determine the future for their teams’ and the League’s future.
Looking back at the draft, you can see why so many people care about the big event.
Team’s destinies really are made by the handful of picks they make each year during the draft.
Just look at the 1998 NFL draft.
The Indianapolis Colts had the first pick of the draft and desperately needed a quarterback to lead their team.
Well, the two names everyone was considering as the top pick for the draft were Peyton Manning or Ryan Leaf.
Many sports pundits were begging the Colts to take Ryan Leaf as the first overall pick as they saw him to be a once-in-a-generation talent.
Well, as we know today, Leaf never lived up to his expectations and had a rough short four-year career in the League with a total of 14 touchdowns and 36 interceptions.
As we know now, Peyton Manning is one of the best quarterbacks of all time that really set the Colts up for success for years to come.
So, the Colts really dodged a bullet with their selection of Peyton Manning back in 1998.
But the night isn’t just big for teams, players also get to know their future as they are picked by each team.
One player’s success and millions of dollars could be determined by where they land on the draft board.
But in all reality, the ones that have the most riding on draft night are the girlfriends and significant others of players drafted.
Imagine how rich Russel Wilson’s first wife thought she was going to become when he was picked by Seattle on draft night?
And others have their relationships ended on draft night.
But in this draft, no girlfriend had it worse than Olu Fashanu’s girlfriend.
Olu Fashanu’s momma-girlfriend tussle goes viral
Fashanu is an offensive lineman out of Penn State, who was selected by the Jets as the eleventh pick of this year’s draft.
And when ESPN showed his family’s reaction live on air, many realized the battle going on for all to see between his mom and his girlfriend.
We can see why Fashanu is a first-round offensive lineman as his mom prevented the girlfriend from touching him during his big moment.
And, even at one point, it looks like she leaned over to tell the girlfriend to back off.
