Does California have a death wish?
Every time you turn around, they keep pushing some new law that defies common sense.
These policies get so strange that criticism is starting to mount from some unexpected places.
Even rapper 50 Cent is calling into question this absolutely insane California policy.
It doesn’t make fiscal sense, but such trivialities have never stopped Golden State officials before.
Last May, Governor Gavin Newsom (D) announced a program that would provide health insurance for nearly 700,000 illegal immigrant residents aged 26-49.
The state had already been providing free health insurance to illegal immigrants under the age of 26 for the past four years.
Prior to that, in 2015, then-California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) signed legislation that allowed illegal immigrant children to qualify for medical insurance.
Newsom’s newest program began on January 1st despite the state facing a $68 billion deficit.
In a statement to Fox News, Newsom’s office said, “In California, we believe everyone deserves access to quality, affordable health care coverage – regardless of income or immigration status. Through this expansion, we’re making sure families and communities across California are healthier, stronger, and able to get the care they need when they need it.”
Taxpayers on the hook for illegal-immigrant healthcare amid skyrocketing costs
But there are problems with this approach.
In addition to the fact that taxpayer-funded freebies will only tease more people to illegally cross into the United States, there are significant cost concerns.
According to official state estimates, California’s state’s budget deficit has exploded to more than $54 billion from just $14.3 billion in June.
Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene minced no words when discussing the latest Golden State gambit, saying on X, “It’s treason. No other way to say it. And now California is going to give illegals free healthcare, but nothing is free, the California taxpayers have to pay for it. The border crisis is the top issue, and I want to impeach but can’t get the votes. Would a tax revolt stop it?”

However sensible it may be to oppose the misuse of taxpayer dollars, it’s not surprising to hear a staunch conservative like Greene voice that kind of sentiment.
What is undoubtedly more unexpected is when big names from those not solidly on the political right make similar statements.
That’s where a well-known rap artist comes in.
50 Cent: “Help me understand this s**t. WTF.”
50 Cent voiced his opposition to California’s decision to use taxpayer money to fund health care for illegal aliens.
In an Instagram post, the rapper wrote, “I don’t understand this; this will cost 2.6 billion dollars for taxpayers. They don’t even give veterans health insurance. [MSNBC anchor Ari Melber] call my phone now, help me understand this shit. WTF.”
This isn’t the first time that the rap artist has waded into the political waters.
Billboard.com reported that in 2020, after hinting that he might possibly vote for Donald Trump over fears that a Joe Biden administration would mean higher taxes, 50 Cent later changed his mind.
